CloudOps Orchestration Service:Host management

Last Updated:May 16, 2025

If you are familiar with Elastic Compute Service (ECS) and want to simplify the configuration and management of multiple ECS instances, we recommend that you use the quick setup feature of CloudOps Orchestration Service (OOS). You can use quick setup in multiple regions to manage and monitor your ECS instances. You can also use Simple Log Service to collect and manage log data.

Limits

  • The ECS instances must be in the Running state.

  • Cloud Assistant is installed on the ECS instances and is in the Active state.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the OOS console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Quick Setup.

  3. On the Configuration Library tab, click Create in the Host Management section.

  4. On the Host Management page, specify the parameters and click Create.

The following table describes the key parameters.

    Parameter

    Description

    Configuration Description

The description of the configuration. The description must be 1 to 256 characters in length.

    Cross account configuration

    Current Account

This is the default option. Resources in this account can be selected.

    Across Accounts (Resource Directory)

You can manage resources in multiple accounts. You must first enable resource directories and complete the settings as an administrator or a delegated administrator. When you enable trusted access, set ROS as the trusted service. For more information, see Manage a delegated administrator account.

    System Operation Manager

Scan the missing patches of instance at 0:00 every day

After you enable this feature, the ECS instances are scanned and a report is generated on a daily basis. The report displays the number of instances that meet the patch compliance based on the default patch baseline, and contains a list of instances and the compliance status. For more information, see Overview of patch management and Patch management.

Collect inventory from your instances every 1 hour

After you enable this feature, the following metadata of ECS instances is collected every hour:

    Metadata type

    • Application: the name, publisher, and version of an application.

    • Network settings: the IP address, MAC address, DNS, gateway, and subnet mask.

    • Service: the name, status, related services, service type, and startup type of a service.

    • Windows role: the name, path, feature category, and installation status. This type of metadata is applicable only to instances that run Windows.

    • Windows update: the patch ID, installer, and installation date. This type of metadata is applicable only to nodes that run Windows.

    • Instance details: the system name, OS name, OS version, DNS, domain name, and OS.

For more information about the configuration list, see Overview.

    Important

Even if you select only a few instances, it may take up to 30 minutes to complete the data collection.

    CloudMonitor

    Install cloud monitor agent

After you enable this feature, the CloudMonitor agent is installed on all ECS instances. The agent is used to monitor the ECS instances. For more information, see Overview of the CloudMonitor agent.

    Simple Log Service

    Install Logtail

After you enable this feature, log data can be collected in real time from various data sources (such as servers, applications, and databases) and transmitted to Log Service for storage and analysis. This allows you to better understand the operating status and performance of the system, and identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.

    Select Instances

    SelectRegion

    Valid options:

    • Deploy in Current Region: applies the configuration list to the region selected in the top navigation bar of the OOS console.

    • Deploy in Another Region: applies the configuration to the one or more regions that you select.

    TargetInstance

Select the ECS instances based on the region type.

    • If you set the SelectRegion parameter to Deploy in Current Region, you can set the Select Role parameter to Manually Select Instances, Specify Instance Tags, Specify Resource Group, or Select All and select one or more nodes.

    • If you set the SelectRegion parameter to Deploy in Another Region, you can set the Select Role parameter to Specify Instance Tags or Select All and select one or more nodes.

  5. In the Confirm Configuration dialog box, confirm the configurations and click OK.

After you complete the settings, you can view the configuration on the Configurations tab.
