File Storage NAS:Resource plans

Last Updated:Feb 10, 2025

File Storage NAS (NAS) is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis by default. You can purchase NAS resource plans to offset your storage usage fees. If the base capacity of a single resource plan cannot meet your business requirements, you can purchase multiple resource plans to enjoy higher capacity. If a resource plan expires or the actual resource usage exceeds the quota of the resource plan, the pay-as-you-go billing method is automatically used.

Resource plan types

Resource plan

Description

General-purpose NAS resource plan

A General-purpose NAS resource plan can be used to offset the fees for the following billable items: Storage Usage of General-purpose NAS File System (Capacity/Performance)1, Storage Usage of IA Storage Class, and Storage Usage of Archive Storage Class.

Extreme NAS resource plan

An Extreme NAS resource plan can be used to offset the fees for the following billable item: Provisioned Capacity of Extreme NAS File System.

1: Storage Usage of General-purpose NAS File System (Capacity/Performance) is a billable item that includes the storage usage of a Capacity, Premium, or Performance NAS file system.

Offset factors

Important

The offset factors listed in this topic apply only to regions in the Chinese mainland. You can use the calculator to view the offset factors for other regions.

General-purpose NAS resource plan

By default, the data of General-purpose NAS file systems (Capacity, Premium, and Performance) is stored in the Standard storage class. After you configure a lifecycle policy for a file system, the files that meet the lifecycle policy are automatically dumped to the Infrequent Access (IA) or Archive storage class.

Purchase suggestions

Suggestion 1: Select resource plan types based on specific billable items in your bill

You can select resource plans based on specific billable items on the Billing Details tab of the Bill Details page. For more information about the application scenarios of different resource plans, see Resource plan types.

For example, if the billable item is Storage Usage of General-purpose NAS File System (Capacity/Performance), you can purchase a General-purpose NAS resource plan to offset the corresponding fees.

Suggestion 2: Select resource plans based on the usage of specific billable items in your bill

You can select resource plans based on the usage of specific billable items on the Billing Details tab of the Bill Details page.

NAS resource plans can be used to offset only the fees for specific billable items. The offset factor varies depending on the file system type and storage class. Before you purchase a resource plan, you can use the calculator to estimate the required capacity or view the offset factor based on the region where your file system resides, the specifications of your file system, and the storage class.

For example, if the maximum storage usage of your Performance NAS file system in the China (Hangzhou) region is 18 GiB per hour, you can purchase a 100 GiB General-purpose NAS resource plan to offset the storage usage fee.

Suggestion 3: Troubleshoot the issue that pay-as-you-go bills are still generated after you purchase resource plans

  1. On the Billing Details tab of the Bill Details page, view the types of billable items, the usage, and the consumption time of resources.

  2. On the Resource Packages tab of the Manage Reserved Instances page, view the types, number, and effective time of resource plans that are in effect.

  3. Compare the billable items and resource plans.

    Example

    Cause

    Solution

The storage usage of your General-purpose NAS file system is 14 GiB per hour. The total capacity of your General-purpose NAS resource plan is 50 GiB.

Your General-purpose NAS file system is a Performance NAS file system. When you use the resource plan to offset the storage usage fee of the file system, the offset factor is 5.47. The resource plan can offset the storage usage fee of 9.15 GiB for the Performance NAS file system. In this case, pay-as-you-go bills are still generated.

Upgrade the capacity of the General-purpose NAS resource plan to 100 GiB or purchase another 50 GiB General-purpose NAS resource plan.

The bills are generated before you purchase resource plans.

A resource plan cannot offset the fees that are incurred before the resource plan is purchased.

    None.

Offset limits

  • NAS resource plans can be used to offset only the storage usage fees of NAS file systems.

  • Each type of resource plan can be used to offset the storage usage fees of the file systems that correspond to the resource plan type. For more information, see Resource plan types.

  • A region-specific NAS resource plan can be used to offset the storage usage fees of NAS file systems only in the selected region. For more information, see Region-specific resource plans.

  • If the resource plan expires or the actual resource usage exceeds the quota of the resource plan, the pay-as-you-go billing method is automatically used.

Region-specific resource plans

NAS provides region-specific resource plans. For more information about the supported regions, visit the buy page of NAS resource plans.

A region-specific NAS resource plan can be used to offset the storage usage fees of NAS file systems only in the selected region.

For example, if you purchase a resource plan for the China (Hangzhou) region, the resource plan can be used to offset the storage usage fees of NAS file systems only in the China (Hangzhou) region.

Offset order

Resource plans of the same type are applied in the following order:

  • The resource plans are used based on their expiration dates. Resource plans whose expiration dates are earlier are used first. If the expiration dates of the resource plans are the same, the resource plans are used based on their purchase dates. The resource plans that are purchased earlier are used first.

For example, you purchased three General-purpose NAS resource plans in the China (Hangzhou) region: A, B, and C. The expiration dates of A and B are the same and are later than that of C. A was purchased earlier than B. The resource plans are used to offset fees in the following order: C, A, and B.

  • If the quotas of the resource plans are used up, you are charged for the excess usage by using the pay-as-you-go billing method.

Note

If you have resource plans, storage capacity units (SCUs), and storage plans within your Alibaba Cloud account, storage usage fees are offset based on the sequence shown in the following figure.抵扣顺序
