Resource groups are used to group your cloud resources by usage, permission, and region. You can use resource groups to organize your resources in a hierarchical manner and partition Microservices Engine (MSE) instances by users and projects. You can then grant Resource Access Management (RAM) permissions at the group level. You can also filter the MSE console view to show only the instances that belong to a specific group.
How resource groups work
Each cloud resource can belong to a single resource group.
A resource group can contain resources from different regions. For example, a single resource group can include instances in both the China (Beijing) and China (Hangzhou) regions.
Moving a resource into a resource group does not change how that resource interacts with other resources.
Resource groups inherit the global permissions of their associated RAM users. If a RAM user has permission to manage all Alibaba Cloud resources, every resource group under that Alibaba Cloud account appears in the RAM user's resource group list.
For details about creating, modifying, or deleting resource groups, see Manage resource groups.
Assign a resource group to a new instance
When you create an MSE instance, you select a resource group for it. If you skip this step, the instance is assigned to the default resource group.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure that you have:
An Alibaba Cloud account with MSE activated
(Optional) A RAM user with permissions to create MSE instances
Procedure
-
Log on to the MSE console, and select a region in the top navigation bar.
-
In the left-side navigation pane, choose Microservices Registry > Instances.
On the Instances page, click Create an instance.
On the buy page, configure the instance parameters and select a resource group from the Resource Group drop-down list.
Verify the configuration and click Buy Now.

If you do not select a resource group, the instance is assigned to the default resource group.
Filter instances by resource group
After you assign instances to resource groups, you can filter the console view to display only the instances in a specific group.
-
Log on to the MSE console, and select a region in the top navigation bar.
-
In the left-side navigation pane, choose Microservices Registry > Instances.
In the top navigation bar, select the target resource group from the All Resources drop-down list. The Instances page displays only the instances in the selected resource group.
