MaxCompute:Storage fees

Last Updated:Jul 24, 2026

MaxCompute charges for stored data, such as tables and resources, and backup data based on the size of a single replica. This topic describes the billing rules for different storage types.

Billing overview

Data in MaxCompute is stored using columnar compression, with a typical compression ratio of approximately 5:1. By default, data is stored redundantly across three replicas, but you are billed for the compressed size of only a single replica.

MaxCompute supports the following storage types:

Type

Use case

Billed items

Single-zone storage

Standard storage

Frequently accessed hot data

Storage fee

Infrequent Access (IA) storage

Infrequently accessed data

Storage fee + Data access fee

Long-term storage

Rarely accessed cold data

Storage fee + Data access fee

Multi-zone storage

Standard storage

Hot data that requires cross-zone disaster recovery

Storage fee

Infrequent Access (IA) storage

Data that requires cross-zone disaster recovery

Storage fee + Data access fee

Long-term storage

Cold data that requires cross-zone disaster recovery

Storage fee + Data access fee

Types

  • Single-zone storage:

Data is redundantly stored across multiple devices within a single zone. This ensures data durability and availability in the event of a hardware-level failure.

  • Multi-zone storage:

If a zone fails, the disaster recovery capability of multi-zone storage maintains service availability and protects data. For more information, see zone disaster recovery.

Billing formulas

  • Storage fee = Average daily storage volume × Unit price. The average daily storage volume is calculated as: (Sum of hourly storage snapshots) ÷ 24.

  • Data access fee = Amount of data accessed × Unit price. This fee applies only to Infrequent Access (IA) storage and Long-term storage.

Changing the storage tier of a table or partition from Infrequent Access (IA) storage to Standard storage or Long-term storage incurs a data access fee for the entire table or partition. The same rule applies when changing from Long-term storage.

Usage notes

  • Overdue payments and service suspension: If a project has an overdue payment, its services may be suspended. To avoid service interruptions, pay your outstanding balance promptly. For more information, see Overdue payments and service suspension.

  • Bill generation time: Storage bills are typically generated within three hours after a billing cycle ends, but may take up to six hours. For example, the bill for the previous day is usually generated before 06:00 on the next day. Actual generation times may vary.

  • After a bill is generated, the fees are automatically deducted from your account balance. You can view your consumption details on the Bill Details page.
