When a MaxCompute payment becomes overdue or a subscription expires, MaxCompute suspends the service. This page explains what changes during a suspension, how long data is retained, and how to restore service before data is permanently deleted.
If the following error appears when running a computing job, MaxCompute services are suspended or a payment is overdue:Account Balance page
ODPS-0420095: Access Denied - Authorization Failed [4093], You have NO privilege to do the restricted operation on {acs:odps:*:projects or project_name}. Access Mode is AllDenied.
To restore service immediately, click Top-up on the Account Balance page in the Expenses and Costs console.
Prevent suspension before it happens
The most effective way to avoid suspension is to configure a spending alert. When your account balance drops below the threshold you set, Alibaba Cloud sends a text message or email before any suspension occurs—giving you time to add funds without service interruption. See Consumption monitoring, alerts, and controls.
Subscription
Trigger: The service is immediately suspended when purchased resources expire.
The impact and grace period depend on whether pay-as-you-go Standard Edition is active in the same region as your subscription compute resources.
If pay-as-you-go Standard Edition is active in the same region
When the subscription expires:
-
The subscription quota is frozen and disabled. Jobs submitted to the frozen quota cannot run.
-
Projects in the region are not affected. Data can be retrieved through other means.
Grace period: 15 days
Pay the overdue amount within 15 days, and the quota automatically returns to an active state.
After 15 days
If the payment remains overdue after 15 days, the quota is permanently deleted and released. You are considered to have voluntarily given up the quota.
-
If pay-as-you-go Standard Edition is also unregistered and released at that point, all projects in the region are deleted and cannot be recovered.
-
After a project is released, its data is immediately and permanently deleted.
If pay-as-you-go Standard Edition is not active in the same region
When the subscription expires, all MaxCompute projects in that region are retained for a 15-day grace period, then released. Projects and data cannot be recovered after release.
Grace period: 15 days
-
Pay the overdue amount within 15 days, and the service restarts automatically. Data storage fees still apply for data retained during this period.
-
Alibaba Cloud sends a text message or email reminder one day before projects are released.
After 15 days
All MaxCompute projects are released and cannot be recovered. Data for tables, resources, functions, and instances is permanently deleted within 30 days. See MaxCompute project details.
Region-specific routing
For projects in the China (Hong Kong), Japan (Tokyo), Singapore, Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Indonesia (Jakarta), Germany (Frankfurt), UK (London), US (Silicon Valley), US (Virginia), UAE (Dubai), and SAU (Riyadh - Partner Region) regions, which scenario applies depends on when pay-as-you-go service was activated:
-
Activated before April 25, 2024: the "not active in the same region" scenario applies.
-
Activated on or after April 25, 2024: the "active in the same region" scenario applies.
Pay-as-you-go
Trigger: If the account balance cannot cover fees from the previous billing cycle, the payment is overdue.
Within the service suspension protection limit
The service continues normally. No suspension occurs.
After exceeding the service suspension protection limit
Alibaba Cloud suspends the MaxCompute service.
Grace period: 15 days
Pay all overdue bills within 15 days to restore service. Data storage fees still apply for data retained during this period.
By default, alert notifications are sent to the mobile number or email address bound to the Alibaba Cloud account.
After 15 days
All MaxCompute projects are released and cannot be recovered. The system sends a text message or email reminder one day before the projects are released. After a project is released, its data is immediately and permanently deleted.
