This topic describes how to activate MaxCompute.
Activate MaxCompute
Before you begin
You have created an Alibaba Cloud account.
If this is your first time using an Alibaba Cloud big data product, we recommend that you use an Alibaba Cloud account to activate MaxCompute. For more information about how to create an Alibaba Cloud account, see Prepare an Alibaba Cloud account.
You have created a RAM user.
If you want to activate MaxCompute as a RAM user, ensure that you have a RAM user account and have granted it the AliyunBSSOrderAccess and AliyunMaxComputeFullAccess permissions. For more information about how to create or obtain a RAM user, see Prepare a RAM user.
Procedure
Method 1: Purchase from the product page
On the Alibaba Cloud MaxCompute product homepage, click Buy Now.
On the product purchase page, select Product Type, Region, and Specifications Type, and then click Buy Now.
Method 2: Purchase from the console
Log in to the MaxCompute console and select a region in the upper-left corner.
On the Overview page, in the Quick Start section, click Activate Now. Alternatively, if the service is already enabled in the current region, click Activate in the Activate Service step.
On the product purchase page, select Product Type, Region, and Specifications Type, and click Buy Now.
Parameters
Product Type: For more information, see Billing items and billing methods.
Specifications Type: For more information, see Specifications Overview.
Compute Unit: A unit of computing resources for MaxCompute. 1 CU contains 1 CPU and 4 GB of memory.
When you activate MaxCompute for the first time, the Standard Edition with the pay-as-you-go billing method is enabled by default. With this billing method, you are charged only for the resources you use. For more information about each billing item, see compute fees (pay-as-you-go), storage fees, and data transfer fees (public network download).
Activate MaxCompute and DataWorks together
DataWorks is a unified, end-to-end big data development and governance platform provided by Alibaba Cloud and tightly integrated with MaxCompute. We recommend using MaxCompute and DataWorks together. This allows you to develop MaxCompute jobs, set up periodic scheduling, perform O&M, and manage data governance on a unified platform.
Activation method
Activate the DataWorks service. The region where you activate DataWorks must be the same as the region where you activated MaxCompute.

Next steps
Administrator
After you activate MaxCompute, plan the required workspaces based on your business needs and create a MaxCompute project.
You can then add members for data development to the project and grant them the required permissions.
Developer

In a project created by an administrator, you can run minimal demos to quickly learn the common workflows of MaxCompute development tools. For more information, see log on to the MaxCompute client.
After the trial
After you try the features of MaxCompute and learn the basic workflow for data development and querying, choose an appropriate development tool to connect to MaxCompute and start developing.
