When you stop using an E-MapReduce (EMR) cluster, how fees are handled depends on your billing method.
Refund rules
| Billing method | Refund rule |
|---|---|
| Subscription | Refunds are supported. When you release an Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance in the cluster, the system refunds the fees for the remaining unused period. |
| Pay-as-you-go | Refunds are not supported. You are billed only for actual usage. To stop charges, release the cluster. |
Refund destination
After you unsubscribe from a resource, see Refund destination for the Alibaba Cloud International website for information about the refund destination and processing time.
Get a refund for a subscription cluster
Subscription clusters are billed upfront for the subscription period. Releasing an ECS instance is equivalent to downgrading the cluster specifications and triggers a refund for the remaining unused period.
Each ECS instance release generates a downgrade order. Once all ECS instances are released, no further downgrade orders can be created.
Refund amount calculation:
Refundable amount = Online refundable amount × Price difference ratio between new and original orders
If multiple orders are generated, the refunds are summed.
Online refundable amount = Paid amount − Fees for consumed resources
For the full refund policy, see Rules for unsubscribing from resources.
Fees incurred by renewing a subscription EMR cluster are not refundable.
Steps:
Release the ECS instances in the cluster. For steps, see Release an instance.
After the instances are released, go to Expenses and Costs > Orders to view your refund.
After you release the ECS instances, go to Expenses and Costs > Order Management to view the refunds for ECS and EMR.
Stop charges for a pay-as-you-go cluster
Pay-as-you-go clusters are billed only for actual usage. Refunds are not supported for pay-as-you-go resources.
To stop being charged, release the cluster. Before releasing, back up or migrate any data in the cluster and confirm that your business is not affected.
