E-MapReduce:Billing FAQ

Last Updated:Feb 20, 2025

This section answers frequently asked questions regarding the billing of E-MapReduce (EMR) clusters.

Do EMR clusters support auto-renewal?

E-MapReduce supports auto-renewal, including for both EMR and ECS. For more details, see Renewal policy.

How do I view the expiration time of an EMR cluster and its ECS instances?

You can find the expiration time of an EMR cluster in the EMR console. Click the name of the desired cluster and check the expiration time under the Basic Information tab in the Cluster Information section.

The expiration time of the ECS instances is the same as that of the EMR cluster. To view the expiration time of ECS instances, go to the EMR console, click on the action column of the desired cluster, select more > Renew, and then click Custom Renewal to see the expiration times.

Is there a notification mechanism when an EMR cluster or ECS instances in the cluster are about to expire?

To monitor the expiration status of your EMR cluster or ECS instances within it, you can check the expiration notifications in the EMR console by clicking Events > Expense Events in the left navigation bar. Additionally, you may opt to subscribe to EMR expense events in CloudMonitor to receive alerts. The system will send out notifications 3 days prior to the expiration date.

If an EMR cluster expires but the ECS instances in the cluster do not expire, am I charged for the ECS instances? What can I do?

If an EMR cluster expires while the ECS instances remain active, the cluster becomes inaccessible, but the nodes will still incur charges.

This situation usually arises when the expiration time of the EMR instance does not match that of the ECS instances. To synchronize their expiration times, promptly renew the cluster in the EMR console after scaling out. In the action column of the desired cluster, select more > Renew, and then click Custom Renewal. For detailed renewal instructions, see Renewal policy.

If the EMR instance expires but the ECS instances do not, renew the cluster in the EMR console without delay. In the action column of the desired cluster, select more > Renew, and then click Custom Renewal to renew the EMR instance separately.

Moreover, if the ECS instances in your EMR cluster have auto-renewal enabled, you can set up auto-renewal for the EMR instance in the EMR console. In the action column of the desired cluster, select more > Configure Auto-renewal, and click Custom Auto-renewal Rule to activate auto-renewal for the EMR instance.

Can I change the billing method of EMR clusters?

The billing method for EMR clusters can be changed from pay-as-you-go to subscription only. For instructions on switching from pay-as-you-go to subscription, see Change from pay-as-you-go to subscription.

Am I charged for an EMR cluster if I confirm the order for the EMR cluster but do not complete the payment?

  • For pay-as-you-go clusters, an ECS bill is generated as soon as the ECS instances are created successfully, and an EMR bill is generated only after the cluster is successfully created.

  • For subscription clusters, no fees are incurred if the payment is not completed.

How am I charged for an EMR cluster?

Both subscription and pay-as-you-go billing methods are available. For the EMR on ECS product form, charges for an E-MapReduce cluster include the E-MapReduce service fees and the ECS product fees. The EMR service fees depend on the type of ECS instances used by the EMR cluster. For more information on billing, see Billing.

How do I enable auto-renewal for EMR clusters?

Auto-renewal is available only for subscription clusters upon expiration. For additional information, refer to Renewal policy.

I want to manually renew an EMR cluster for four years, but this option is not available. What can I do?

You may first renew for two years, and upon successful renewal, opt to renew for another two years. For detailed manual renewal steps, see Manual renewal.
