You can change a website running on Edge Security Acceleration (ESA) to another purchased plan in your account.
Differences between changing and upgrading plans
Changing plan: Moves a website from its current plan instance (A) to another purchased plan instance (B). After the change, the website belongs to plan B, and plan instance A remains available for other websites.
Upgrading plan: Increases the specifications of the same plan instance, for example, from the Pro plan to the Premium plan. While the plan instance remains the same, its specifications and capabilities are enhanced.
Before you start
You can change a website's plan only if the following conditions are met:
The website's current and target plans must belong to the same Alibaba Cloud Account (UID).
Changing between Enterprise and other plans is not supported.
Original plan | To Entrance | To Pro | To Premium | To Enterprise |
Entrance | ||||
Pro | ||||
Premium | ||||

Upgrading to an Enterprise plan is irreversible. You cannot downgrade the plan. Carefully assess your long-term needs before proceeding.
Procedure
In the ESA console, go to Websites. Find the website you want to change, click the
icon in the Actions column, and select Change Plan.
On the Change Plan page, read the risk notice, select the I understood the risks. checkbox, and choose your target plan. Click Next.
NoteA non-Enterprise plan must not be bound to any websites. An Enterprise target plan must have available website quotas.

ESA automatically checks whether your website's current configuration is compatible with the target plan's features. For any incompatible features, disable them manually or use the one-click option as prompted on the page.
Disable manually: Review and disable critical features that have a significant impact. These include:
Disable with one click: For other incompatible features, click Disable and Change. The system automatically disables these features to meet the requirements for the change.

Once all compatibility checks pass, click Change Plan.

Verify the result
The change process typically takes less than a minute. You can monitor the site's status on the Websites page. The change is successful when the site status returns to Active and its plan details are updated to the target plan.

Impacts of the change
Business impact: The change process does not interrupt your service. However, brief network jitter lasting a few seconds might occur during the switch, which is imperceptible for most services. Changing the plan may alter POP resources, potentially and temporarily affecting the cache hit rate. We recommend changing the plan during off-peak hours.
Configuration impact:
Retained configurations: ESA retains basic configurations, such as DNS records and SSL certificates.
Reset or deleted configurations: The system resets or deletes configurations for features that you disabled to resolve incompatibilities.
Billing impact: After the change, billing switches to the new plan and follows its corresponding billing rates.
