Upgrade the instance class of a Data Transmission Service (DTS) instance to increase throughput when the current specification no longer meets your workload requirements.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure that:
The DTS task is a data migration task or a data synchronization task. Change tracking instances cannot be upgraded.
The data migration task is in the Migrating, Paused, or Failed state.
Limits
Upgrades are one-directional. After you upgrade a DTS instance, you cannot downgrade it.
The upgrade causes approximately 5 seconds of latency for incremental data migration and data synchronization. Perform this operation during off-peak hours.
Billing
The cost of an upgrade depends on the billing method of your DTS instance.
Subscription instances
The upgrade fee is calculated as follows:
Upgrade fee = (Daily fee after upgrade - Daily fee before upgrade) x Remaining days
Where Remaining days = Subscription expiration date - Upgrade date.
The daily fee after upgrade depends on the number of remaining days:
| Remaining days | Daily fee calculation |
|---|---|
| Less than 300 | Monthly subscription price / Days in the month |
| 300 or more | Yearly subscription price / Days in the year |
Example:
Suppose you upgrade a subscription instance with 90 remaining days. The monthly price of your current instance class is USD 100 and the monthly price of the new instance class is USD 200.
Daily fee before upgrade = 100 / 30 = USD 3.33
Daily fee after upgrade = 200 / 30 = USD 6.67
Upgrade fee = (6.67 - 3.33) x 90 = USD 300.60
Pay-as-you-go instances
After the upgrade, you are charged per hour based on the new instance class. No additional upgrade fee applies.
For DTS pricing details, see Billing overview.
Upgrade an instance
Log on to the Data Transmission Service console.
NoteIf you are redirected to the Data Management (DMS) console, click the
icon in the lower-right corner, and then click
to return to the previous version of the DTS console. In the left-side navigation pane, click Data Migration or Data Synchronization.
Find the instance that you want to upgrade. In the Actions column, click the ... icon, and then click Upgrade.
Select a new instance class and select Data Transmission Service (Pay-as-you-go) Service Terms. For information about available instance classes, see Instance classes of data migration instances and Instance classes of data synchronization instances.
Note The actual pages in the DTS console may differ from those shown in this topic.Note Before you can change the synchronization topology of a data synchronization task, make sure that all the relevant requirements are met. For more information, see Upgrade synchronization topology from one-way to two-way.Click Pay or Activate to complete the payment.
Verify the upgrade
After the upgrade completes, return to the task list page in the DTS console and confirm that the instance class has changed to the new specification.
