Domain Names:Transfer a domain name out of Alibaba Cloud

Last Updated:Jun 04, 2026

Transfer your domain name from Alibaba Cloud to another registrar. After the transfer, Alibaba Cloud no longer provides domain services.

To transfer a domain name to another Alibaba Cloud international site account, use Transfer a domain name to another Alibaba Cloud account.

Prerequisites

Verify that your domain name meets the following requirements:

Requirement

Description

Current registrar is Alibaba Cloud

Verify this in the Registrar field on the domain name's basic information page.

On the Domain List page in the domain names console, click the domain name that you want to transfer out to view the basic information.

Registered or transferred over 60 days ago

Per ICANN policy, the domain must have been registered with or transferred to Alibaba Cloud for more than 60 days. More than 60 days must also have passed since the last transfer to a different registrar.

View transfer records on the change log page.

Domain name status is normal

  • Disable the transfer lock: On the Domain List page, click Manage for the target domain name. On the Domain Security page, ensure that the transfer lock (clientTransferProhibited) is disabled.

  • Normal status: The domain status must not be serverTransferProhibited (Registry Lock) or clientHold (Registrar Hold). These statuses indicate violations or disputes that must be resolved before transfer.

  • No disputes: The domain name is not involved in any dispute, arbitration, or court order that restricts transfers.

Valid registrant email address

The transfer key and notifications are sent to the registrant email address. On the Basic Information page of the Domain Name List, confirm that the email address is correct and functional. To update it, use Modify registrant information (transfer of ownership).

Important

When you submit the modification, make sure to select the Disable "Domain names cannot be transferred out of Alibaba Cloud within 60 days of successful modification" option. Otherwise, the domain name will be locked for 60 days and cannot be transferred out of Alibaba Cloud.

Sufficient time before expiration

CNNIC-managed domain names cannot be transferred within 15 days of expiration. Initiate the transfer at least 30 days before the expiration date.

Renewal or redemption completed over 45 days ago

If the domain was recently renewed or redeemed, wait more than 45 days before submitting the transfer-out request. Transferring within 45 days may cause you to lose the renewal period and forfeit the fee.

You can view renewal or redemption records on the change log page.

Identity verification is complete

A .cn domain name must have completed identity verification.

Billing

  • Alibaba Cloud: The domain transfer-out operation itself is free.

  • New registrar: According to ICANN regulations, a transfer requires you to pay a fee to the new registrar. This fee typically extends the domain's validity by one year. For details, consult your new registrar.

Procedure

Important

To avoid DNS resolution failures, change the domain's DNS servers to those of the new registrar and configure the required DNS records before you start the transfer.

Step 1: Get the transfer key

Also known as an authorization code, transfer password, Auth Code, EPP Code, or Auth Info.
  1. Log on to the domain names console, go to the Domain Names page, find the domain name you want to transfer and click Manage in the Actions column.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Domain Transfer-Out.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm the registrant email address and complete the email verification.

If the email address is incorrect, click Change Email to update it.
  4. After verification, click Next. An email containing the transfer key is sent to the domain's registrant email address.

The transfer key authorizes the domain transfer. It is valid for 15 days. Use it promptly.

Step 2: Submit transfer-in at the new registrar

  1. Log on to your new registrar's website and locate the domain transfer-in feature.

  2. Follow the new registrar's instructions to enter the domain name and the transfer key.

  3. Complete the payment, which typically covers a one-year domain renewal.

  4. Check your email for a confirmation message from the new registrar.

Step 3: Wait for the domain transfer

When Alibaba Cloud receives a transfer request from the new registrar, a confirmation email is sent to the registrant's email address.

  • To proceed, no action is required. The domain transfers automatically within 5 to 7 days.

  • To cancel the transfer, use Cancel the transfer-out.

Next steps

Check the transfer status

You can check your domain name's status at any time by using a WHOIS lookup tool.

  • If the domain status is pendingTransfer, the transfer is pending. Domain statuses are explained in WHOIS lookup details.

  • When the registrar changes from Alibaba Cloud, the transfer is complete. Manage the domain on your new registrar's platform.

Cancel transfer-out

You can cancel the transfer while the domain status is "Transferring Out".

  1. Log on to the Alibaba Cloud domain names console, click the domain name that is being transferred out and go to the basic information page.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Domain Transfer-Out > Cancel Transfer-Out.

If the Domain Transfer-Out page has no Cancel Transfer-Out button, the domain has already transferred out. A completed transfer cannot be reversed. Wait 60 days before you transfer the domain name to Alibaba Cloud again.

FAQ

  • How do I manage my domain name after the transfer?

After the transfer, manage the domain on the new registrar's platform. Ensure you have the login credentials.

  • What should I do if I do not receive the email with the transfer key?

    Check the following:

    • Verify that the registrant email address in the console is correct.

    • Check the spam or junk folder of that email account.

    • If the address is correct, click Get Transfer Key Again on the transfer key request page.

  • What should I do if the transfer key I submitted is invalid?

    Check the following:

    • Verify that the key has not exceeded its 15-day validity period. If expired, obtain a new one.

    • Copy the key exactly, without extra spaces or misread characters (such as 0 vs. O).

  • What should I do if the page repeatedly redirects or shows an error when I request a transfer key?

This typically occurs when the registrant email address is unverified or incomplete. On the domain's basic information page, verify that the email address is correct and verified.
