Subscription backup schedules have a fixed validity period. If a subscription backup schedule expires without renewal, backup services may be interrupted. Pay-as-you-go backup schedules never expire — keep your Alibaba Cloud account balance positive and no action is required.
Potential impacts
If a subscription backup schedule is not renewed before its validity period ends, backup services may be interrupted. For details on what happens after expiration, see Expiration and overdue payments.
Billing
The renewal fee equals the original purchase fee. The specific amount is displayed in the console at the time of renewal. For a breakdown of fees, see Backup fees.
Choose a renewal method
| Method | Best for |
|---|---|
| Auto-renewal | Avoiding service interruptions — the system renews automatically before expiration |
| Manual renewal | One-time or ad hoc renewals when you prefer full control over the timing |
Enable auto-renewal for production workloads where backup continuity is critical. Use manual renewal for short-term or test backup schedules.

Auto-renewal behavior
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Renewal cycle | The system charges based on the renewal duration you specify. For example, a three-month renewal duration means you are charged for three months each cycle. |
| Duration conflict | When the subscription duration and auto-renewal duration differ, the system uses the shorter duration. For example, a three-month subscription with a six-month auto-renewal duration results in three-month actual renewals. |
| Default duration | One month for monthly subscriptions; one year for yearly subscriptions. |
| Payment timing | Payment is collected nine days before the expiration date. Make sure your account balance is sufficient. |
| Expiring within 24 hours | Renew manually — auto-renewal cannot process in time. |
| Manual renewal before auto-renewal | If you manually renew before auto-renewal triggers, the system calculates the next auto-renewal based on the updated expiration date. |
