DataWorks:Handle check events

Last Updated:Mar 26, 2026

After you configure check items, DataWorks automatically inspects nodes before they are committed and deployed. When a node violates a check item, DataWorks records a check event. Unresolved Failed events can block your data development pipelines—handle them promptly to keep workflows running and maintain your account's governance health score.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure that you have:

Supported data sources

Data Asset Governance handles check events only for MaxCompute, E-MapReduce (EMR), and Hologres data sources. To see which check items apply to each data source, check the Range column on the corresponding tab of the Knowledge page. For more information, see Knowledge base.

Hologres requirements:

  • Collect Hologres metadata in DataWorks Data Map before using it in Data Asset Governance. For more information, see Metadata collection.

  • Hologres data sources are supported only in the China (Beijing), China (Shanghai), China (Hangzhou), and China (Shenzhen) regions.

Required permissions

The check event dimensions you can view depend on your role:

DimensionRequired role (any one of)
GlobalAlibaba Cloud account; RAM user with AliyunDataWorksfullAccess; tenant administrator; tenant-level data governance administrator
WorkspaceAlibaba Cloud account; RAM user with AliyunDataWorksfullAccess; workspace administrator; tenant administrator; tenant-level data governance administrator; workspace-level data governance administrator
IndividualAll other users (default access)

Check event statuses

Understanding check statuses helps you prioritize remediation:

StatusWhen it appliesAction required
FailedThe node violated a check item and is blocking data development.Governance engineers must fix the violation before the pipeline can proceed.
PassedThe node passed the check item, or the violation has been resolved. No action needed.

View and handle check events

  1. Go to the Data Asset Governance page. Log on to the DataWorks console. In the top navigation bar, select the desired region. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Data Governance > Data Asset Governance, then click Go to Data Asset Governance.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Governance > Check Event.

  3. On the Check Event page, select a dimension and review the check events.

    image

The page is organized into four sections:

    SectionWhat it shows
① Dimension selectorSwitch between Global, Workspace, and Individual views. In Workspace view, select a workspace of which the current account is the administrator from the Workspace drop-down list. In Individual view, check events are filtered to data owned by the current account (the Owner parameter equals the current account name).
② Metrics summaryTotal check times; number and ratio of failed checks; number and ratio of blocked data development processes. Includes daily and monthly growth and decline rates.
③ Distribution chartsPie charts breaking down events by Distribution by Check Result and Distribution by Check Type.
④ Event listCheck events grouped by category: R&D, Storage, Computing, Quality, and Security. Filter by workspace and check status to see event details including check item name, operator, occurrence time, check object type, and check object.
    Note

Prioritize events with a check status of Failed. These events block your data development pipelines and require immediate action from governance engineers.

What's next

After you handle a check event, return to the Check Event page to confirm that the check status has changed to Passed.

Resolving Failed events contributes to your account's governance health score, which is calculated based on the health assessment model provided by DataWorks. For more information, see Quantitative assessment: health scores.
