Upgrade a resource group's specifications when task queues grow consistently, concurrent task limits are reached, or sync tasks process large data volumes and run longer than expected. Downgrade when the resource group is underutilized and its current specifications exceed your workload. This topic describes how to change the specifications of a subscription-based exclusive resource group.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure that you have:
-
An exclusive resource group for Data Integration or scheduling in the Running state
-
An Alibaba Cloud account or Resource Access Management (RAM) user with both the AliyunDataWorksFullAccess and AliyunBSSOrderAccess policies
-
No pending scaling or specification change orders for the target resource group — if a pending order exists, go to Order Center to complete it first
Limitations
-
Subscription only: Specification changes apply to subscription products only. Pay-as-you-go products are not supported.
-
Supported resource group types: See the table below.
| Resource type | Upgrade | Downgrade |
|---|---|---|
| Exclusive resource group for Data Integration | Supported | Supported |
| Exclusive resource group for scheduling | Supported | Supported |
| Exclusive resource group for DataService Studio | Supported | Not supported |
For exclusive resource groups for Data Integration, machine specifications determine the maximum concurrency for a single task. To shorten the runtime of a sync task that processes large data volumes, increase the machine specifications and adjust the number of concurrent tasks per machine, or increase the concurrency for a single sync task.
How specification changes work
| Change type | What changes | Billing | Effective time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Upgrade | Specifications of all machines in the resource group | Pay the price difference from the upgrade date to the end of the original subscription period | About 20 minutes after payment |
| Downgrade | Specifications of all machines in the resource group | DataWorks refunds the price difference from the downgrade date to the end of the original subscription period | — |
The number of resource groups does not change in either case. Actual charges are reflected in your bill. To view your bill, see View bill details (Deprecated).
Potential impacts
Before you change specifications, review how the operation affects running tasks:
| Impact | Details |
|---|---|
| Task termination | All running tasks on the resource group are stopped. DataWorks shows the number and types of affected tasks. Filter by owner or workspace to review them. |
| Alert triggering | If alert rules are configured for terminated tasks, those alerts may fire. |
| Tasks that cannot auto-rerun | Some tasks cannot resume automatically after termination. For example, a real-time sync task may not be able to resume from its previous offset — you must manually restart it and specify the sync offset. See Configure real-time synchronization of incremental data from a single table. |
| Task delay from downgrade | Downgrading specifications may cause task delays. |
Change the specifications
The following procedure uses an exclusive resource group for scheduling as an example. The steps are the same for an exclusive resource group for Data Integration.
-
Log on to the DataWorks console.
-
In the left navigation pane, click Resource Group and select the target region.
-
On the Exclusive Resource Group tab, find the resource group with Purpose set to Data Scheduling. Hover over the
icon in the Actions column, then click Change Specifications. -
On the Change Specifications page, review the potential impacts listed in Potential impacts.
-
Select whether to automatically rerun terminated tasks after the change completes, then select I am aware of the impacts of the operations. Production tasks include real-time sync tasks, real-time computing tasks, recurring schedule tasks, and data backfill tasks in Operation Center (production environment). Temporary test tasks run in DataStudio are not included.
-
Yes: DataWorks automatically reruns terminated production tasks after the specification change is complete.
-
No: DataWorks does not rerun the tasks automatically.
Recurring schedule tasks stopped by the platform and those rerun after the change appear as separate records on the Instance Operation Record page.
-
-
Click Next.
-
From the New Specifications drop-down list, select the target specifications. For details on what each specification supports, see Number of tasks supported by exclusive resource groups for scheduling with different specifications and Number of tasks supported by exclusive resource groups for Data Integration with different specifications. Select the Terms of Service checkbox, then click Pay Now.

-
On the payment page, confirm the order summary and details. Select a payment method and click Pay Now. Complete the payment as prompted.
If you cancel the payment, the specification change is also canceled — your tasks and resource group are not affected. If the payment fails, go to Order Center to cancel the order before attempting another scaling or specification change.

-
After payment, DataWorks stops all running tasks, changes the resource group specifications, and reruns terminated production tasks. The change takes some time. If you close the page, go to the Resource Groups page, hover over the
icon in the Actions column for the resource group, and click Change Specifications to check progress.
