Dataphin:Asset consumption

Last Updated:Dec 09, 2025

Asset consumption is a key step in determining the value of data assets. This process securely and conveniently provides processed data assets to data consumers, such as data warehouse developers and users in operations, sales, and product roles. These consumers can analyze the data they have permission to access, which supports business decisions and creates new value for business development.

Prerequisites

  • You have purchased the Asset Operation and Asset Consumption value-added services. The Asset Catalog and Asset Consumption features must be enabled for the current tenant.

  • You have purchased the OpenAPI feature, which is required to use the Dataphin Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) driver. This driver connects Dataphin with Quick BI for data collection and consumption.

Permissions

Super administrators, operations administrators, and custom global roles with the Consumption - Consumption Channel Management permission can perform asset consumption.

Consumption channels

Dataphin lets you perform data analytics using Notebooks, dashboards, Downloads, and workbooks.

  • Notebook: A web-based interactive computing environment that lets you write rich media content by combining SQL code and Markdown text. You can run the SQL code in the notebook and view the results in real time. For more information, see Create a Notebook on the analysis platform.

  • Dashboard: A dashboard uses a flexible, tile-based layout to show interactions between report data. It lets you visualize data, filter and query various data types, and highlight key fields. For more information, see Create and manage dashboards.

  • Downloads: Allows you to download data to your local computer in either Excel or CSV format. For more information, see Create and manage Downloads.

  • Workbook: Designed for analysts and business users who are proficient with Excel, a workbook offers a familiar user experience. A workbook can summarize data from different worksheets (Sheets) into a single table that contains various business summary metrics. For more information, see Create and manage workbooks.
