Data Transmission Service:Billing overview

Last Updated:Mar 28, 2026

Data Transmission Service (DTS) charges based on the feature you use and how you run it. This page summarizes what you pay for, the available billing methods, and how to manage your bills.

Pricing by feature

The three DTS features — data migration, data synchronization, and change tracking — follow different billing rules. The table below shows what each feature charges for and which billing methods it supports.

FeatureBilling methodsCharges
Data migrationPay-as-you-go onlyInstance configuration fees (only during incremental data migration) + Internet traffic fees
Data synchronizationSubscription, pay-as-you-goInstance configuration fees only
Change trackingSubscription, pay-as-you-goInstance configuration fees + data transfer fees + Internet traffic fees
For data migration, instance configuration fees apply only while incremental data migration is running.

For exact prices, see Data Transmission Service Pricing.

Billable items

DTS charges for up to three item types, depending on the feature:

  • Instance configuration fees: charged based on the instance specification you select.

  • Internet traffic fees: charged for data transferred over the public internet.

  • Data transfer fees: charged for the volume of data consumed by change tracking subscribers.

For the full breakdown of how each item is calculated, see Billable items.

Billing methods

DTS supports two billing methods:

  • Subscription: pay upfront for a fixed term. Suitable for long-running synchronization or change tracking tasks where usage is predictable.

  • Pay-as-you-go: pay for what you use. Suitable for short-term migrations or unpredictable workloads. This is the only option for data migration.

For details on how each method works, see Billing methods.

Billing method switching

Switch between subscription and pay-as-you-go based on your business needs. See Change the billing method.

Payment methods

DTS accepts the following payment methods:

  • Alibaba Cloud account balance: deducted automatically when fees are generated.

  • Bank card: charged directly.

  • PayPal: Alibaba Cloud pre-authorizes your PayPal account and charges it after pay-as-you-go fees are generated.

After your resources are in use, view your charges in View bills.

  • PayPal: After your pay-as-you-go resources incur fees, Alibaba Cloud pre-authorizes your PayPal account.

  • Paytm: Paytm is available only for users in India. After your pay-as-you-go resources incur fees, Alibaba Cloud pre-authorizes your Paytm account.

Instance renewal and refunds

When a subscription instance expires, services provided by the instance may be affected. Renew before the expiration date to avoid interruption. If you do not renew, the instance is automatically released and data loss occurs. See Renew instances.

Before canceling a subscription instance, read the refund rules carefully. See Refund policy.
