Data Management:Disable or enable database instances

Last Updated:Mar 21, 2024

If you do not want to allow other users to query or modify a database instance in Data Management (DMS), you can disable the database instance as a DMS administrator or a database administrator (DBA). Then, the database instance is unavailable and cannot be searched for in the DMS console. If you want to remove the restrictions on a disabled database instance in DMS, you can enable the database instance. You can also view the reason why a database instance is disabled.

Prerequisites

You are a DBA or a DMS administrator. For more information, see View system roles.

Usage notes

  • A disabled database instance is unavailable in DMS and is removed from the left-side instance list on the homepage of the DMS console. In addition, the database instance cannot be searched for in the DMS console. However, a disabled database instance can still run as normal and is available in other Alibaba Cloud services.

  • A disabled database instance consumes the quota of the control mode. If you no longer need to use the database instance in DMS, remove the database instance to release resources. For more information, see Remove database instances.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the DMS console V5.0.
  2. Move the pointer over the 2023-01-28_15-57-17.png icon in the upper-left corner of the DMS console and choose All functions > Data Assets > Instances.

    Note

If you use the DMS console in normal mode, choose Data Assets > Instances in the top navigation bar.

  3. On the Instance List tab, you can disable or enable a database instance and view the reason why a database instance is disabled.

    • Disable a database instance

Find the database instance that you want to disable and choose More > Forbidden instance in the Actions column. In the message that appears, click Confirm.

    • View the reason why a database instance is disabled

      1. In the filter section, select Disable from the Status drop-down list.

      2. Find the database instance that you want to view and move the pointer over Disable in the Status column to view the reason why the database instance is disabled.

        Note

A database instance may be disabled because the purchased control mode or sensitive data protection feature expires.

    • Enable a database instance

In the filter section, select Disable from the Status drop-down list. Find the database instance that you want to enable and choose More > Enable instance in the Actions column. In the message that appears, click Confirm.

      Note

Before you enable a database instance, you can modify the configurations of the database instance based on the reason why the database instance is disabled.

For example, a database instance is disabled due to the insufficient quota for the Security Collaboration mode. Before you enable the database instance, you can purchase the Security Collaboration mode to increase the quota or change the control mode of the database instance to Flexible Management.
