Data Management:Remove one or more instances

Last Updated:Mar 28, 2026

Remove a database instance from Data Management (DMS) when you no longer need to manage it through the console. Removing an instance disconnects it from DMS — it does not delete or release the underlying database.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure that you have:

  • The database administrator (DBA) or DMS administrator role

Usage notes

  • Removing an instance disconnects it from DMS. The underlying database is not deleted or released. To delete the database itself, go to the corresponding cloud console.

  • All your permissions on the removed instance are automatically revoked.

  • Databases in the instance are no longer accessible from the DMS console.

Important

If the instance uses Stable Change or Security Collaboration mode, removing it from DMS does not stop billing. To stop charges, unsubscribe from the control mode on the DMS Order Management page.

Remove a single instance

  1. Log in to the DMS console V5.0.

  2. In the left-side instance list, right-click the instance you want to remove.

  3. Select Delete Instance, then click OK in the confirmation dialog.

Remove multiple instances

  1. Log in to the DMS console V5.0.

  2. In the top navigation bar, choose Data Assets > Instances.

  3. On the Instance List tab, select the instances you want to remove.

  4. Move the pointer over More at the top of the list, then select Delete Instance.

  5. Click OK in the confirmation dialog.

What to do next

If the instance was on a pay-as-you-go plan, unsubscribe from any billable resources. For details, see the Pay-as-you-go resources section of "Unsubscribe from billable features."

FAQ

Can I restore a removed instance?

Yes. Go to Data Assets > Instances, open the Instance List tab, find the instance, and choose More > Enable Instance in the Actions column.

Does removing an instance affect the database itself?

No. Removing an instance only disconnects it from DMS. The database data remains intact. To delete the database, go to the corresponding cloud console.

Does billing stop when I remove a pay-as-you-go instance in Stable Change or Security Collaboration mode?

No. After removal, the databases in the instance are disconnected from the DMS console, but billing continues. To stop charges, unsubscribe from the control mode. For details, see Unsubscribe from billable features.
