Cloud Storage Gateway:Billing

Last Updated:Jun 03, 2026

Learn about CSG billable items, billing methods, and overdue payment policies.

Billable items

CSG provides cloud gateways (deployed on Alibaba Cloud) and on-premises gateways (deployed in your data center). These gateways have different billable items.

Cloud gateways

Cloud gateways are billed by edition, cache type, and public bandwidth. Both pay-as-you-go and subscription are supported:

  • Pay-as-you-go: Hourly gateway fee = Hourly rate for the gateway edition + Cache capacity (GB) × Unit price per GB-hour + Public bandwidth (Mbit/s) × Unit price per Mbit/s-hour

  • Subscription: Yearly or monthly subscription price = Yearly or monthly subscription fee for the gateway edition + Cache capacity (GB) × per-GB price for yearly or monthly subscription + Public bandwidth (Mbit/s) × per-Mbit/s price for yearly or monthly subscription

Note

Public bandwidth is disabled by default. Enable it for cross-region gateway or express sync use. Bandwidth up to 5 Mbit/s is free.

CSG on CloudBox

Purchase CloudBox resources first. You are then charged only for gateway software licenses.

Cross-zone HA file gateways

Cross-zone HA file gateways are billed on a pay-as-you-go basis, based on edition, cache type, and public bandwidth:

  • Hourly gateway fee = (Hourly rate for the gateway edition + Cache capacity (GB) × Unit price per GB-hour + Public bandwidth (Mbit/s) × Unit price per Mbit/s-hour) × 2

    Note
    • A cross-zone HA file gateway costs double a standalone file gateway with the same edition, cache, and bandwidth.

    • Cross-zone HA file gateways do not support cross-region deployment. Free bandwidth quota: 5 Mbit/s.

On-premises gateways

You provide VMs and cache resources. Alibaba Cloud charges only for gateway software licenses.

Other fees

CSG usage may incur the following additional fees:

  • OSS fees

Gateway access to OSS buckets incurs fees for storage, traffic, requests, and data retrieval. These fees appear on your OSS bill.

    • Storage: Files written to gateways are uploaded to OSS and consume bucket storage.

    • Traffic: Internal OSS endpoints incur no traffic fees. Public endpoints incur outbound Internet traffic fees for reads.

    • Requests: File uploads and downloads through file gateways or iSCSI gateways incur request fees. Reverse sync on file gateways generates additional requests when listing files and metadata. iSCSI gateways upload files as fixed-size fragments, increasing request volume for larger files.

    • Data retrieval: Charged based on data volume read from OSS. Archive objects must be restored before access, and retrieval fees apply based on the restored data amount. Re-restoring an already-restored Archive object incurs no additional fee.

      Note

Data retrieval fees apply only to Infrequent Access (IA) and Archive objects.

  • SLS fees

If log monitoring is enabled, CSG logs are sent to a Simple Log Service Logstore. Fees appear on your Simple Log Service bill.

  • KMS fees

    • If server-side encryption is enabled on OSS, OSS calls KMS API operations to query, generate, encrypt, and decrypt keys.

KMS fees appear on your KMS bill.

  • OSS transfer acceleration fees

Transfer acceleration for a share uses the gateway's public bandwidth to speed up cross-region data transfers. Fees appear on your OSS bill.

  • SMQ fees

Express sync requires Simple Message Queue (SMQ). Enabling express sync incurs SMQ fees.

Billing methods

CSG provides the pay-as-you-go and subscription billing methods.

Pay-as-you-go

You are billed hourly based on resource usage. Usage is measured at the end of each hour, and fees are deducted from your account balance. For example, the bill at 09:30:00 typically covers usage from 08:00:00 to 09:00:00.

Note

Due to billing system latency, the latest bill may not reflect the previous hour. For example, at 09:30:00 the latest bill may cover 07:00:00 to 08:00:00.

Subscription

Subscription suits long-term CSG usage; pay-as-you-go suits short-term usage.

The following table lists subscription-eligible resources.

Resource

Description

Gateway

Select subscription billing when creating the gateway.

Cache disk

Subscription gateways require a subscription cache disk.

  • Purchase a subscription gateway

    • Set Billing Method to Subscription when creating the gateway.

      Note
      • On the Cloud Storage Gateway (Subscription) page, select a subscription duration. Do not modify other settings.

      • Optionally, select Auto-renewal on the Cloud Storage Gateway (Subscription) page.

  • Purchase a cache disk

    Note

A cache disk is associated with a gateway. The subscription durations of a cache disk and a gateway may differ. If the gateway is deleted or expires, the cache disk is also released and you are charged for the full cache subscription.

Switch the billing method

Switch from pay-as-you-go to subscription to reduce long-term costs.

Note

The gateway must be in the Running state to switch billing methods.

  1. Log on to the CSG console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Gateways. Find the target gateway and choose More > Switch to Subscription in the Actions column.

  3. On the Cloud Storage Gateway (Subscription) page, select a subscription duration, and then click Buy Now.

    Note

On the Cloud Storage Gateway (Subscription) page, select a subscription duration. Do not modify other settings.

  4. Complete the payment.

Overdue payments

Overdue payments affect CSG as follows:

  • Gateways that are deployed in a data center

If your payment is overdue for 24 hours, Alibaba Cloud suspends CSG access and disables resource operations. Data in local cache disks is retained but inaccessible. If you settle the payment within 15 days, CSG access is automatically restored.

  • Gateways that are deployed on the cloud

    • If your payment is overdue for 24 hours, Alibaba Cloud suspends CSG access and disables resource operations. Data on cache disks is retained and continues to incur fees.

    • After a 15-day suspension period, Alibaba Cloud terminates CSG access. All cache disk data is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

Refund policies

  • Deleting a pay-as-you-go gateway stops all charges.

    Note

Pay-as-you-go gateways are not eligible for refunds.

  • Unexpired subscription gateways are eligible for refunds. For more information about refunds, see Unsubscribe.
