The user guide for file gateways in Cloud Storage Gateway (CSG) encompasses a range of management operations, such as gateway configuration, performance optimization, and security settings. This guide is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of file gateway operations, enhancing both your efficiency and overall experience.
Manage file gateways
Tag management
You can add tags to gateways to facilitate efficient categorization and querying. For more information, see Manage tags.
Gateway specification upgrade
If the current gateway specification no longer meets your needs, you can upgrade to a higher specification that offers increased read and write bandwidth, supports additional shares, and provides enhanced functionality. For more information, see Upgrade gateway specifications.
Manage data and data access
Cache
Each share of a file gateway has a unique cache disk. To create multiple shares, you must create the same number of cache disks for the shares. You can upload data from a share to the associated Object Storage Service (OSS) bucket, or use the share to download data from the OSS bucket to a local disk. For more information, see Manage cache disks.
Shares
CSG allows you to create and manage SMB or NFS shares to share your data. You can grant different access permissions to different users or groups. For more information, see Manage shares.
Share access
You can access shares by using network paths or mapped network drives. For more information, see Access shares.
Public bandwidth configuration
You can configure network bandwidth for accessing OSS buckets over the Internet from gateways. A higher bandwidth limit enables faster data transfers over the Internet. If you do not enable cross-region binding when you create a file gateway, you do not need to configure a public network bandwidth limit. When a gateway and its associated OSS buckets are located in different regions, you must configure public network bandwidth appropriately to ensure optimal data transfer speeds. For more information, see Configure a public bandwidth limit.
Express synchronization
Express synchronization allows you to efficiently synchronize changes in an OSS bucket to all local clients that are connected to the bucket by using a file gateway. It supports data synchronization across regions. For more information, see Configure express synchronization.
Data download
In replication mode, two backups are created. One is stored in the OSS bucket, and the other is stored on the local client. The data download feature allows you to download data within a specific directory or all data in the shares to a local client based on the metadata synchronized by using reverse synchronization or express synchronization. For more information, see Download data.
Configure security and permission control
Windows permission support
CSG provides Windows permission support. After you enable Windows permission support for a Server Message Block (SMB) share, you can use access-based enumeration(ABE) to control the visibility of files and directories based on permissions on these files and directories. For more information, see Enable Windows permission support.
Multi-bucket association
You can associate a share with multiple OSS buckets in the same region to implement a unified namespace. After the share is mounted to a client, each associated bucket is mapped to a separate directory in the local file system. For more information, see Associate a share with multiple OSS buckets.
Transfer acceleration
Transfer acceleration accelerates data transfers between regions. For more information, see Enable transfer acceleration.
Virtual IP addresses
Virtual IP addresses provide stable access to file gateways in different network environments. For more information, see Configure virtual IP addresses.
SMB users
You can create SMB users and assign them access permissions to control access to file gateways. For more information, see Add an SMB user.
AD and DNS settings
You can add a file gateway to an Active Directory (AD) domain and configure DNS server IP addresses so that the file gateway can correctly resolve domain names. For more information, see Configure AD and DNS.
AD domain users and groups for SMB shares
After a gateway is added to an AD domain, you can allow existing users in the domain to access the SMB share for user-authenticated access to the SMB share. For more information, see Add Active Directory domain users and groups to an SMB share.
SMB security settings
You can set SMB security to determine whether to enable server-side signing. For more information, see Set SMB security.
Configure network settings and manage logs
Network configurations
You can configure network settings and security groups to enable access to file gateways over a classic network or virtual private cloud (VPC). For more information, see Configure networks.
Log management
You can upload logs to CSG for analysis, troubleshooting, and performance optimization. For more information, see Manage logs.
Monitor gateways
Starting from V1.0.39, file gateways support log monitoring. Real-time monitoring allows you to check file gateway status, performance metrics (such as CPU usage, memory usage, and network traffic), and storage usage. For more information, see Monitoring.
Update gateways
You can update the gateway to the latest version to gain access to new features and important security patches. For more information, see Update a gateway.
Configure alerting
When the system detects an abnormal condition (such as insufficient cache space for metadata or a backlogged upload queue), it automatically sends an alert notification to the administrator to ensure that the issue can be addressed in a timely manner. For more information, see View and handle alerts.
