Cloud Data Transfer:[20231204] Notice on the switch of billing to CDT for the outbound Internet data transfers of Function Compute

Last Updated:Dec 06, 2023

From 00:00 on January 5, 2024, the outbound Internet data transfers of Function Compute will be billed by using Cloud Data Transfer (CDT) and the outbound Internet data plans of Function Compute will be deprecated. This means that the outbound Internet data transfers of Function Compute will be billed based on the unit prices for Internet data transfers provided by CDT. This adjustment does not affect your business. You can still purchase the outbound Internet data plans of Function Compute before 00:00 on January 5, 2024. All the outbound Internet data plans that you purchased can still be used during their validity periods until they are used up.

Introduction to CDT

The CDT service is used to bill data transfers for different Alibaba Cloud products in a centralized manner. CDT allows you to flexibly use and conveniently manage data transfer resources. This helps you effectively reduce IT costs. For more information about CDT, see What is CDT?

After the billing is switched to CDT, the outbound Internet data transfers that you use in Function Compute are billed based on the unit prices for Internet data transfers provided by CDT and the data transfer fees are managed by CDT. CDT supports tiered pricing for the outbound Internet data transfers of Function Compute together with the Internet data transfers of other Alibaba Cloud products. The larger the amount of Internet data transfers, the lower the unit price. For more information about the billing of Internet data transfers provided by CDT, see Internet data transfers.

After the billing is switched to CDT, you can receive a free quota of 10 GB Internet data transfers over BGP lines per month. This free quota can be shared by the Alibaba Cloud products that provide access to the Internet in all regions. The products are supported by CDT. This free quota can be superimposed with other discounts. By default, this free quota is deducted first.

Note

CDT billing rules are consistent with the billing rules of the Alibaba Cloud products supported by CDT. In Function Compute, the Internet data transfers in the outbound direction are billed. After the billing is switched to CDT, the billed Internet data transfers are still outbound data transfers. For more information, see Supported products and metering methods.

Free trial quota for new and existing users

Note

This topic provides the following definitions for new and existing users:

  • New users: users who activate the Function Compute service in the Function Compute console after 00:00 on December 19, 2023.

  • Existing users: users who activated the Function Compute service before 00:00 on December 19, 2023.

Free trial quota for new users

Users who activate the Function Compute service for the first time can receive a free trial quota of 100 GB of Internet data transfers per month. This free trial quota is valid for three months. This free trial quota is provided by CDT resource plans and can be used to offset the Internet data transfers that are generated by other Alibaba Cloud products such as Elastic Compute Service (ECS) and Classic Load Balancer (CLB). After the free trial quota of Internet data transfers is used up or expires, the pay-as-you-go billing method supported by CDT is automatically used.

Free quota for existing users

In order to make up for the inconvenience that this adjustment may bring to existing users, starting from 00: 00 on January 05, 2024, existing users will receive a free quota of 100 GB of Internet data transfers per month. This free quota is valid for 12 months. This free quota is provided by CDT resource plans to offset the outbound Internet data transfers in Function Compute. After the free quota of Internet data transfers is used up or expires, the pay-as-you-go billing method supported by CDT is automatically used.

Note

The free quota for existing users is automatically issued. Starting from 00:00 on January 5, 2024, existing users can log on to the Alibaba Cloud Management Console, access User Center, and then click Resource Instances in the left-side navigation pane to view the free quota on the Manage Reserved Instances page.
