This topic provides answers to some frequently asked questions about the renewal, configuration upgrade, configuration downgrade, refund, and release of bastion hosts.
How does Alibaba Cloud charge me if I upgrade the edition or the configuration of a bastion host?
If you upgrade your bastion host from the Basic edition to the Enterprise edition, or you upgrade the specifications of your bastion host, you are charged for the change of specifications based on the remaining usage duration of the original configuration. For specific configuration fees, refer to the price that is displayed in the console when you upgrade the specifications.
How do I update my bastion hosts to the latest version?
If you use Bastionhost V3.2, minor version updates are performed on a regular basis. For more information, see Version upgrade announcement. During the time period available for the upgrade, you can schedule an upgrade based on your business requirements. If you do not specify the upgrade time, the system automatically performs the upgrade based on the default time. We recommend that you specify the upgrade time to prevent your business from being affected. For more information, see Version upgrade.
How do I upgrade a bastion host to the Enterprise edition?
Only Bastionhost V3.2 supports the Enterprise edition.
If you use a bastion host of the Basic edition, log on to the Bastionhost console. Find the bastion host you want to upgrade on the Instances page and click Upgrade. On the Upgrade/Downgrade page, select Enterprise as the edition. For more information, see Update a bastion host.
If you use Bastionhost V3.1, you need to upgrade it to V3.2.
If you use Bastionhost V2, you need to upgrade it to V3.1 first, and then upgrade it to V3.2.
Does an upgrade of my bastion host affect my business?
You may upgrade your bastion host from the Basic edition to the Enterprise edition, or you change the specifications of your bastion host. For example, you change the number of server assets from 50 to 100 for the bastion host. During the upgrade period, if you use the Bastionhost console or perform O&M tasks by using Bastionhost, transient connections may occur. In most cases, such an issue lasts for about 30 minutes. We recommend that you perform an upgrade during off-peak hours.
How do I downgrade a bastion host?
You cannot downgrade a bastion host.
Can I continue to use a bastion host after it expires?
Yes, you can use the bastion host within 15 days after it expires. The bastion host is released automatically after the 15-day period if it is not renewed. After the bastion host is released, it can no longer be used.
If a bastion host expires but is not released, you can perform O&M tasks and audit operations by using the bastion host. However, you cannot configure or view logs in the Bastionhost console. We recommend that you renew your bastion host at the earliest opportunity to ensure the normal operation of your O&M tasks. For more information, see Renewal overview.
How do I release a bastion host?
A bastion host is automatically released 15 days after it expires. After the bastion host is released, your configuration and audit data are cleared. If you want to continue using the bastion host, renew it at the earliest opportunity. For more information about how to renew a bastion host, see Renewal overview.
