Configuring monitoring for an ASM gateway involves two distinct stages: generation and collection. Generation occurs on the gateway, producing the monitoring metrics you specify. Collection involves sending these metrics to Managed Service for Prometheus for storage, analysis, and visualization. Because these stages are configured separately, you can enable generation, collection, or both. This topic describes how to generate, collect, and view ASM gateway monitoring metrics.
Prerequisites
-
Managed Service for Prometheus has been activated for your Alibaba Cloud account. For more information, see Activate ARMS.
ImportantCollecting metrics with Managed Service for Prometheus may incur charges. For pricing details, see billing overview.
-
The Prometheus agent has been installed in your Container Service for Kubernetes (ACK) cluster. For more information, see Prometheus instance for Container Service.
Step 1: Generate monitoring metrics
For more information, see Customize monitoring metrics in ASM.
Step 2: Collect and view monitoring metrics
-
Collect monitoring metrics. For more information, see Collect monitoring metrics to Managed Service for Prometheus.
-
View the monitoring metrics.
-
Log on to the ASM console. In the left-side navigation pane, choose .
-
On the Mesh Management page, click the name of the target ASM instance. Then, in the left-side navigation pane, choose or .
-
In the Observability section of the target gateway, click Gateway monitoring to view the monitoring metrics.
The Gateway monitoring page contains three tabs: Gateway Status Monitoring, HTTP Gateway Monitoring, and TCP Gateway Monitoring. On the Gateway Status Monitoring tab, the top section displays overview cards with metrics such as IstioGateway Name, Pod Number, spec_replicas, Pod Mem Used, and Pod memory limit. Below the cards are three time-series line charts: Pods memory usage, Pods CPU usage, and Network I/O pressure. You can adjust the time range with the time selector in the upper-right corner.
