Two factors determine what happens to your Managed Service for Prometheus data samples after a subscription expires: the storage duration and the subscription period.
Data is retained for the full configured storage duration regardless of billing method changes and is cleared only when it reaches the end of its storage duration.
Storage duration
Managed Service for Prometheus automatically clears data that exceeds the configured storage duration. To keep historical data longer, increase the storage duration. For details, see .
Subscription expiry
When the subscription period ends, the billing method automatically switches to pay-as-you-go and the instance continues to receive data samples without interruption.

After the billing method switches from subscription to pay-as-you-go, the original storage duration remains unchanged.

If your Alibaba Cloud account has insufficient funds after the switch to pay-as-you-go, Managed Service for Prometheus stops receiving data seven days after a payment becomes overdue. For details, see .

To switch the billing method back from pay-as-you-go to subscription, settle all outstanding pay-as-you-go bills first. For details, see .

One-month subscription with one-month storage duration

Because the subscription period and storage duration are the same length, data expiry and the billing switch occur simultaneously. New data continues to be ingested under pay-as-you-go billing.
One-month subscription with three-month storage duration

Because the storage duration outlasts the subscription period, previously ingested data is retained for the full three months after the subscription expires. Data ingestion continues under pay-as-you-go billing.
