This topic describes how Prometheus Service handles reported data samples after the current subscription expires.

When your subscription expires, Prometheus Service handles reported data samples differently based on the storage duration and the length of the subscription period.

Effect of storage duration on data

Data that has reached the end of their storage duration is automatically cleared. To retain historical data for a longer period of time, you need to configure a longer storage duration. For more information, see Subscription.

Effect of subscription period on data

When the subscription period ends, the service is switched to pay-as-you-go billing and continues to receive data. For more information about service renewal, see How do I renew a subscription instance?. For more information about the pay-as-you-go billing method, see Pay-as-you-go.

Note
  • If the billing method of a Prometheus instance is changed from subscription to pay-as-you-go, the original storage duration still takes effect.
  • If the billing method is switched to pay-as-you-go and your Alibaba Cloud account has insufficient funds to continue paying for the service, Prometheus Service stops receiving data seven days after a payment becomes overdue. For information about the impact of overdue payments, see Overdue payments.
  • If you want to change the billing method of a Prometheus instance from pay-as-you-go to subscription, you need to settle any outstanding pay-as-you-go bills of the Prometheus instance first. For more information, see Change the billing method from pay-as-you-go to subscription.

Example 1

You purchased a one-month subscription that comes with a storage duration of one month, and did not select the Auto-renewal option.

Your subscription expires one month after the purchase, and Prometheus Service automatically clears the data that has reached the end of their storage duration. If you do not renew the subscription when the subscription period ends, the billing method is automatically changed to pay-as-you-go to receive subsequent data.

Example 2

You purchased a one-month subscription that comes with a storage duration of three months, and did not select the Auto-renewal option.

Your subscription expires one month after the purchase, and Prometheus Service automatically switches to pay-as-you-go billing and continues to receive data. Three months after the purchase, Prometheus Service automatically clears the data that has reached the end of their storage duration.
