This topic describes how to create a Prometheus instance and view information about the created Prometheus instance.

Go to the Managed Service for Prometheus page

  1. Log on to the ARMS console.
  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Prometheus Service > Prometheus Instances.
  3. On the Managed Service for Prometheus page, you can create a Prometheus instance and view information about existing Prometheus instances, such as the region, instance type, tags, billing method, and Grafana workspace.
Note You can enter an instance name in the search box above the instance list to perform a fuzzy search.

Create a Prometheus instance

Resource usage

The Managed Service for Prometheus allows you to gain insights into the resource usage. You can choose Prometheus Service > Resource Usage, and view the monitoring data of custom metrics on the page that appears. For more information, see View resource usage.

View information about a Prometheus instance

On the Managed Service for Prometheus page, find the Prometheus instance that you created and view information such as the instance name, region, instance type, tags, billing method, and Grafana workspace.

Instance Name column

The name of the created Prometheus instance. Click the name of the Prometheus instance to go to the Integration Center page, where you can perform more operations on the Prometheus instance. For more information about Integration Center, see Integration center.

Region column

The region information of the created Prometheus instance. For example, China (Hangzhou) in the Region column indicates that the instance is created in the China (Hangzhou) region.

Instance Type column

The type of the created Prometheus instance. For more information, see What is a Prometheus instance?.

Tag column

The tags of the created Prometheus instance. Managed Service for Prometheus allows you to use tags to identify Prometheus instances. A tag is a key-value pair. The key of a tag must be unique. You can perform the following operations on the tags of Prometheus instances:

  • Filter instances by tag: Click Tag above the instance list, and select a key-value pair from the drop-down list to filter Prometheus instances.
  • Add a tag: Find the Prometheus instance that you created. Move the pointer over the bt icon in the Tag column and click Edit Tags. In the dialog box that appears, click Create tag, specify the tag key and tag value, and then click OK.
Note For a Prometheus instance to which a tag is added, move the pointer over the bt icon in the Tag column. The complete key-value information of the tag is displayed in the pop-up window.
  • Remove a tag: Find the Prometheus instance that you created. Move the pointer over the bt icon in the Tag column and click Edit Tags. In the dialog box that appears, remove a tag as needed.
Note If a tag is no longer added to Prometheus instances, the tag is automatically deleted.
Note
  • A maximum of 20 tags can be added to each Prometheus instance.
  • Each tag can be added to a maximum of 50 Prometheus instances.
  • A maximum of 20 tags can be added or removed at a time.

Billing Method column

You can view the billing methods of the existing Prometheus instances. The Managed Service for Prometheus supports the pay-as-you-go and subscription billing methods. For more information about the billing methods, see Billing overview.

If a Prometheus instance uses the subscription billing method, you can view the specifications of the instance when you move the pointer over Subscription. The instance specifications include the capacity specification, storage period, expiration time, and number of reported data entries of the custom metrics.
Note The Prometheus instance for Container Service also displays the number of nodes in the monitored cluster.

For example, if the value of the Metric Consumption field is 232.92 million/3000 million, the number of reported data entries of custom metrics reaches 232.92 million, and the Prometheus instance supports up to 3 billion reported data entries of custom metrics.

Grafana workspace

The Grafana workspace of the created Prometheus instance. Click the workspace name of the Prometheus instance in the Grafana Workspace column. The dashboard of the Prometheus instance appears, where you can view the monitoring data of the instance.

  • Change a Grafana workspace: Find the Prometheus instance that you created. Move the pointer over the workspace name of the instance and click the vricon next to the workspace name. In the dialog box that appears, click the ceicon to show all existing workspaces, select a new workspace for your instance from the drop-down list, and then click OK.
  • Create a Grafana workspace for an instance: Move the pointer over the value in the Grafana Workspace column of the instance and click the vr icon. In the dialog box that appears, click Create. You are redirected to the Workspace Management page of the Grafana service. You can create a workspace as prompted.

Actions column

  • Settings: allows you to perform O&M operations on the Prometheus instance, including metric management, service discovery, and Prometheus agent settings.
  • Uninstall: allows you to uninstall the Prometheus instance. After you uninstall a Prometheus instance, it is no longer displayed on the Managed Service for Prometheus page.
  • Install: allows you to install a Prometheus instance for Kubernetes.
Note Only a Prometheus instance for Kubernetes supports this action.
  • Edit: allows you to modify a Prometheus instance for GlobalView.
Note Only a Prometheus instance for GlobalView supports this action.
  • Enable Subscription: allows you to change the billing method of the Prometheus instance from pay-as-you-go to subscription. For more information, see Change the billing method from pay-as-you-go to subscription.
Note You can perform this operation only on pay-as-you-go Prometheus instances. For more information about the pay-as-you-go billing method, see Pay-as-you-go.
  • Service Change:
    • Specification Upgrade: allows you to change the capacity and storage period of the subscription Prometheus instance. For more information, see Modify specifications.
    • Renew: allows you to renew the Prometheus instance. For more information, see Manual renewal.
Note You can perform this operation only on subscription Prometheus instances. For more information about the subscription billing method, see Overview.

Usage notes

If your subscription Prometheus instance is about to expire, or the resource usage is about to reach or exceeds the upper limit, a message appears to remind you to renew your instance or modify the specifications of your instance. This ensures business continuity. For more information about the subscription billing method, see Overview.

Number of data entries of custom metrics

  • When the number of data entries of custom metrics exceeds 70% of the upper limit, a message appears to remind you to increase the capacity at the earliest opportunity.
  • When the number of data entries of custom metrics exceeds the upper limit, a message appears to remind you to increase the capacity immediately.

Number of nodes in the ACK cluster

  • When the number of nodes in the Container Service for Kubernetes (ACK) cluster exceeds 70% of the upper limit, a message appears to remind you to increase the upper limit at the earliest opportunity.
  • When the number of nodes in the ACK cluster exceeds the upper limit, a message appears to remind you to increase the upper limit immediately.
Note Only the Prometheus instance for Container Service supports messages about increasing upper limits on the number of nodes in the ACK cluster.

Expiration of the subscription Prometheus instance

  • When your subscription Prometheus instance is about to expire after seven days, a message appears to remind you to renew your instance.
  • After your subscription Prometheus instance expires, a message appears to remind you to renew the instance.
