AnalyticDB for PostgreSQL:Change the disk storage type

Last Updated:Jan 31, 2024

AnalyticDB for PostgreSQL provides various disk storage types to meet your storage performance and cost requirements in different scenarios. You can change the disk storage type based on your business requirements.

Prerequisites

The instance is in elastic storage mode.

Background information

AnalyticDB for PostgreSQL provides the following types of disks. For information about disk performance, see EBS performance.

  • PL0 enhanced SSD (ESSD)

  • PL1 ESSD

  • PL2 ESSD

    Note

PL2 ESSDs are supported only if the storage capacity per node is larger than 500 GB.

  • Ultra disk

    Note

Ultra disks are no longer available for purchase but can be normally used in existing instances.

Usage notes

  • You cannot change the disk storage type from ESSD to ultra disk.

  • You can change the disk storage type from PL0 ESSD to PL1 ESSD or PL2 ESSD, but not from PL1 ESSD or PL2 ESSD to PL0 ESSD.

  • During the process of changing the disk storage type, the read and write performance of your instance may be affected. We recommend that you perform this operation during off-peak hours.

  • The process of changing the disk storage type requires several hours or more. The actual amount of time varies based on the throughput, storage, and original disk type of the instance.

The following table describes the amount of time that is required to change the disk storage type based on different conditions.

Billing rules

You are billed based on the new disk storage type after the changes. For more information, see Pricing.

Procedure

Select the disk storage types and node specifications that are suitable for different scenarios to improve the overall instance performance. For more information, see Instance specifications.

  1. Log on to the AnalyticDB for PostgreSQL console.
  2. In the upper-left corner of the console, select a region.
  3. Find the instance that you want to manage and choose Change Compute Node Specifications > Upgrade Node Specifications in the Actions column.

  4. On the Upgrade/Downgrade page, select a disk storage type.

For information about other parameters, see Change compute node configurations.

    Note

During the process of changing the disk storage type, you can read and write data but the database performance may be affected. If you also change the compute node specifications, you can only read data during the process of changing specifications.

  5. Read and select the Terms of Service, and then click Buy Now.

After you perform the preceding operations, the instance enters the Upgrading/Downgrading state. When the instance status changes to Running, the change operation is complete.
