Account Center:Change account logon email

This topic describes how to change the logon email for your Alibaba Cloud account.

Scenarios for modifying the logon mailbox

You may need to change your logon email for the following reasons:

  • Strengthen security: Your original email address is compromised or no longer meets corporate security standards and must be replaced with a more secure one.

  • Organizational changes: An employee leaves the company or changes roles, which requires you to transfer account control to a new owner and update the logon credentials.

  • Standardize management: Your company wants to align all cloud account logon emails with a standard corporate domain to facilitate centralized management.

Note

Changing the logon email only changes the credential used for identity verification. It does not change the account ID (UID). All resources, configurations, access controls (such as Resource Access Management (RAM) users or permissions), and AccessKey pairs for the account are bound to the UID and remain unchanged.

Prerequisites

This topic applies only to changing the logon email for an Alibaba Cloud account while you are logged on. The solution varies based on whether your original logon email is available:

  • If your original logon email is available, you can use your email or a phone verification code to complete the identity verification.

  • If your original logon email is unavailable

    • If you remember your original logon email, you can still log on to the account with your email and password. Then, you can choose to receive a verification code on your secure phone to complete the verification and change the email.

    • If you forget your original logon email, you cannot log on to the account. In this case, you must change the information by submitting an appeal. For more information, see My account email is unavailable.

  • If both your original secure phone and logon email are unavailable, you cannot complete the identity verification required for the change. In this case, you must change the information by submitting an appeal. For more information, see My account email is unavailable.

Procedure

Users who log on as a Resource Access Management (RAM) user, with a RAM role, or through enterprise single sign-on (SSO) cannot change the logon email of the Alibaba Cloud account. You must contact the account administrator to log on to the Alibaba Cloud account and perform the operation.

  1. Log on to your Alibaba Cloud account. In the upper-right corner of the page, click your Profile Picture > Account Management. In the Account Center, go to the Security Settings page and click Change next to Logon Account.

  2. On the identity verification page, you can verify your identity using your secure phone or your original logon email.

  3. After your identity is verified, enter the new Logon Email, click Get Verification Code, enter the verification code that you receive, and then click OK to complete the change.

  4. The Modification successful message appears.

Security recommendations

Changing your logon email is a risky operation that directly affects account ownership. Keep the following points in mind:

  • Before you perform this operation, ensure that you own the new email address. You must confirm that you have full control over the new mailbox. Do not use a mailbox that belongs to someone else or is shared.

  • After the change is complete, you can no longer use the original logon email to log on. All future logons, password retrievals, and security notifications are sent to the new logon email. You must keep your new email address secure.

FAQ

What do I do if I do not receive a verification code when I change my logon email?

  1. If your original logon email or secure phone is working, you can try to send the verification code again. You can also troubleshoot the issue or submit an appeal. For more information, see What do I do if I cannot receive a verification code during registration or logon?.

  2. If both the secure phone number and the logon email that are attached to the account are unavailable, you must submit an appeal. For more information, see My account email is unavailable.

What do I do if a message indicates that the new email is already in use?

This message indicates that the new email address has been registered for another account. In this case, you can perform one of the following operations:

  1. Use an email address that has not been registered.

  2. If you own the email address but forgot the password, you can try to recover access to the account. For more information, see How do I reset a forgotten password?.
