Drive and Photo Service:File upload

Last Updated:Feb 06, 2026

This topic describes the file upload feature and its upload limits.

Feature introduction

  • Instant upload: If a file with the same content already exists in the drive, the upload is completed instantly. You do not need to wait for the full upload process.

  • Drag-and-drop upload: You can log on to the drive, select multiple local files, and drag them to a specific directory in the drive to start the upload.

  • Concurrent multi-file upload: You can run up to 10 upload tasks concurrently.

  • Custom upload speed: When uploading multiple files, you can set a maximum network bandwidth to reduce the impact on your network.

  • Upload retries: If an error occurs during an upload, the system automatically retries the operation to improve the chances of a successful upload.

  • Anonymous upload via shared links: External users can upload files anonymously by accessing a shared link to the drive.image

  • You can handle file name conflicts. When you upload a file or folder with the same name as an existing one, you can choose to Skip, Overwrite, or Keep Both.

    • Skip: The local file or folder is not uploaded, and the existing file or folder in the cloud is kept.

    • Overwrite: Replaces the existing file or folder in the cloud with the new local file or folder.

    • Keep Both: Keeps both the cloud and local files or folders. A date is added to the name of the newly uploaded file or folder to differentiate them.imageimage

FAQ

The transfer module is unavailable

  1. Download the latest version of the PDS client and try to upload the file again. For more information, see Client download.

  2. If you already have the latest client version, restart the client and try to upload the file again.

  3. If the upload still fails, export the logs and contact us for help.

Slow transfer speed

Note

If you use the web client to upload or download files, the transfer speed might be slow. To improve transfer efficiency, we recommend switching to the PDS client. For information about how to install and use the client, see Client download.

  • Slow upload speed on the client

If the file upload speed is slow, check whether the file is stored locally. If not, copy the file to your local device and then upload it.

  • Slow speed when uploading local files to the drive

    1. Test your local network bandwidth on a speed test platform. Make sure no other upload tools are running in your local environment to ensure an accurate test.

    2. Go to the regular user interface. In the upper-right corner, click your profile picture > User Settings > Network Diagnostic Tool to run a network diagnosis.

    3. After the speed test and diagnosis are complete, contact us for help.

Service is initializing. Please try again later.

If you see the error "Service is initializing. Please try again later." when transferring data in PDS, follow these steps to troubleshoot:

  1. Operating system requirements:

The PDS client requires Windows 10 (64-bit) or later or macOS 10.15 or later.

If you have an older operating system, you can try an older client version. However, we recommend that you upgrade your operating system for full functionality, compatibility, and security.

  2. Check the local loopback network:

In the lower-left corner of your desktop, search for "CMD" and open the Command Prompt. Run the command ping 127.0.0.1.

If you continuously receive valid replies, the loopback network is working correctly.

If the ping fails, there might be a problem with your system or firewall configuration.

    Recommended actions:

You can temporarily disable the Windows Firewall for testing:

    1. In the lower-left corner of your desktop, search for and open "Firewall".

    2. Go to the settings pages for Domain network, Private network, and Public network.

    3. Turn off the firewall for each network type.

    4. Restart the PDS client and try the file transfer again.

  3. Check if antivirus software is blocking client network access

Some security software, such as 360 Total Security, might block the PDS client's network connection. This can cause transfer errors or prevent you from logging on. Follow these steps to check and allow the program:

    For example, consider 360.

    1. Open 360 Total Security

      • Start 360 Total Security and go to the main Network interface.

    2. Go to Traffic Firewall settings

      • From the menu bar, select All Features.

      • Click Traffic Firewall to go to its settings page.

    3. Find and allow related processes to access the network

      • On the Traffic Firewall page, find the list of programs currently connecting to the network.

      • Find datatransfer.exe or EnterpriseFileManager.exe in the list and confirm their network access status.

      • If these processes are blocked, click the "Manage" icon on the right and select Allow access to network.

  4. If the issue persists, export the logs and contact us for help.

Speed issues when uploading data from outside the Chinese mainland

When you use PDS in Hong Kong (China), Macao (China), Taiwan (China), or other regions outside the Chinese mainland, transfer speeds might be slow due to cross-border and cross-region network conditions. If you are using PDS outside China, you can activate Global Accelerator.

Are there speed limits?

  1. PDS does not actively limit your speed. If you are using PDS outside China, you can activate Global Accelerator.

  2. If you have any questions, contact us for help.

If an upload is interrupted on the PC client, does the system automatically resume it?

If a transfer is interrupted, the system resumes the upload automatically after you log back in to PDS.

What does "Waiting for retry" mean next to a file in the upload task list?

The "Waiting for retry" status appears when an error, such as a network exception, occurs during upload. The system triggers the retry mechanism.
