To use Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN), you must first create a transit router (TR). Then, you can use the transit router to create connections between your network instances. CEN charges for these connections are as follows:
For intra-region connections, you are charged connection fees and traffic processing fees.
For inter-region connections, you are charged inter-region bandwidth fees.
Billable items
Item | Billing rule | Formula | Minimum billing cycle | Billing method |
Connection fee | Charged based on the number of intra-region connections and their usage duration. Intra-region connections include VPC connections, ECR connections, VBR connections, and VPN connections. Usage duration is the time from when a connection is created until it is uninstalled. | Unit price (USD per connection per hour) × number of intra-region connections × usage duration (hours) | 1 hour. If usage is less than 1 hour, it is billed as 1 hour. | Pay-as-you-go |
Traffic processing fee | Charged based on traffic ingress to the transit router from intra-region connections. Multicast traffic is not subject to this rule. For details, see Multicast billing. | Unit price (USD per GB) × traffic ingress to the transit router from intra-region connections (GB) | 1 hour
Inter-region bandwidth fee | Pay-by-data-transfer: Charged based on inter-region traffic egress from each transit router. Fees are settled by the Cloud Data Transfer (CDT) service. | Unit price (USD per GB) × inter-region traffic egress from the transit router (GB) | 1 hour
Pay-by-bandwidth: Purchase a bandwidth plan, then allocate bandwidth from the plan to your inter-region connection. Each bandwidth plan is billed based on its bandwidth value and subscription duration. | Unit price (USD per Mbps per month) × bandwidth value (Mbps) × subscription duration (months) | 1 month | Subscription |

Pay-by-bandwidth
If you choose the pay-by-bandwidth billing method:
Only the "Gold" link type is supported for inter-region connections.
Pricing uses a tiered model. The total cost is the sum of the fees for each tier. To view the pricing for your target bandwidth, go to the bandwidth plan purchase page.
The unit prices for each tier are shown in the following table.

Example: Tiered pricing for inter-region bandwidth
Assume that you purchase one bandwidth plan instance for connections between regions in the Chinese mainland, with a peak bandwidth of 110 Mbps and a subscription duration of one month. The cost is calculated as follows:
USD 34/Mbps/month × 100 Mbps × 1 month + USD 13/Mbps/month × 10 Mbps × 1 month = USD 3,530
Starting from March 31, 2021, new Alibaba Cloud accounts are eligible for a one-month free trial of CEN bandwidth plans with up to 5 Mbps of bandwidth. For more information, see Free trial: subscription bandwidth plans for CEN.
Link types
Inter-region links support two service levels: "Gold" and "Platinum". These service levels offer different performance for traffic transmission:
Link type | Service availability | Applicable scenarios |
Gold | 99.95% | Workloads that are not sensitive to link quality, such as data synchronization and file transfer. |
Platinum | 99.995% | Workloads that are highly sensitive to jitter and latency and require high link quality, such as securities trading, online voice, video conferencing, and real-time gaming. |
Billing examples
Example 1: Intra-region VPC connectivity
As shown in the figure, assume you create a transit router in the China (Hangzhou) region to connect two VPCs in the same region (VPC1 and VPC2). Over one month, VPC1 sends 100 GB of traffic to VPC2 through the transit router, while VPC2 sends no data to VPC1. The fees are calculated as follows:
Connection fee:
The two VPC connections are intra-region connections. The unit price for each connection in the Chinese mainland is USD 0.05 per hour.
Assume that the month has 30 days: 30 days × 24 hours = 720 hours.
USD 0.05/connection/hour × 2 VPC connections × 720 hours = USD 72.
Traffic processing fee:
The unit price is USD 0.02 per GB.
Traffic from
VPC1to thetransit routeris 100 GB. Traffic fromVPC2to thetransit routeris 0 GB.USD 0.02/GB × (100 GB + 0 GB) = USD 2.
Total for one month:
Connection fee: USD 72.
Traffic processing fee: USD 2.
Total payable: USD 72 + USD 2 = USD 74.
Example 2: Inter-region VPC connectivity
As shown in the figure, assume you create two transit routers in one CEN instance—one in China (Hangzhou) and the other in China (Shanghai). Each region contains one VPC (VPC1 and VPC2)—and each VPC connects to the transit router in its region. The two transit routers connect through an inter-region connection. Over one month, VPC1 sends 100 GB of traffic to VPC2, and VPC2 sends no data to VPC1. Calculate the fees as follows:
Connection fee:
The two VPC connections are intra-region connections. The unit price for each connection in the Chinese mainland is USD 0.05 per hour.
Assume that the month has 30 days: 30 days × 24 hours = 720 hours.
USD 0.05/connection/hour × 2 VPC connections × 720 hours = USD 72.
Traffic processing fee:
The unit price is USD 0.02 per GB.
Traffic from
VPC1totransit router 1is 100 GB. Traffic fromVPC2totransit router 2is 0 GB.USD 0.02/GB × (100 GB + 0 GB) = USD 2.
Inter-region bandwidth fee:
Assume that you use the pay-by-data-transfer billing method with the "Gold" link type. The unit price for inter-region traffic between regions in the Chinese mainland is USD 0.072 per GB.
The inter-region traffic from
transit router 1totransit router 2is 100 GB, while the traffic fromtransit router 2totransit router 1is 0 GB.USD 0.072/GB × (100 GB + 0 GB) = USD 7.2.
Total for one month:
Connection fee: USD 72.
Traffic processing fee: USD 2.
Inter-region bandwidth fee: USD 7.2 (pay-by-data-transfer).
Total payable: USD 72 + USD 2 + USD 7.2 = USD 81.2.
In the same scenario, if you choose the pay-by-bandwidth billing method, the unit price for bandwidth for connections between regions in the Chinese mainland is USD 34/Mbps/month. If you purchase a 10 Mbps bandwidth plan, the inter-region bandwidth fee is USD 34/Mbps/month × 10 Mbps = USD 340. After you add the connection and traffic processing fees, the total fee for one month is USD 72 + USD 2 + USD 340 = USD 414.
FAQ
CCN connections are a type of intra-region connection that can be created only with Basic Edition transit routers. These connections do not incur connection or traffic processing fees.
