Product Updates on Alibaba Cloud Products | October

In this article, we summarize the new features, new zones and regions, and experience enhancements of Alibaba Cloud Products.

New Features

MaxCompute - Dual-signature Authentication for Hologres External Tables

In MaxCompute, you can create a Hologres external table in dual-signature authentication mode. This feature helps significantly improve the efficiency of creating external tables.

Target customers: customers who want to use real-time data warehousing and offline data warehousing and customers who want to perform online data analytics.

Features released: The dual-signature authentication mode is an authentication protocol that is developed based on MaxCompute and Hologres. After the user logon information and signature are used on MaxCompute, authentication data is sent to Hologres. Then, Hologres performs authentication by using the same username based on the protocol that is compatible with the underlying layer of MaxCompute. This way, you can directly access external tables if you use the same Alibaba Cloud account to access MaxCompute and Hologres. You do not need to configure additional authentication information.

MaxCompute - Support for Schema Migration

MaxCompute allows you to use the CREATE TABLE LIKE statement to create a table that has the same schema as a table in external data sources.

Target customers: data analysts, data developers, and data platform-related personnel who want to use the MaxCompute lakehouse solution to create a MaxCompute table that has the same schema as a table in external data sources such as E-MapReduce (EMR), Hadoop, and Data Lake Formation (DLF).

Features released: This feature allows you to use the MaxCompute lakehouse solution to create a MaxCompute table that has the same schema as a table in external data sources such as EMR, Hadoop, and DLF. You can use the CREATE TABLE LIKE statement to migrate table schemas from external data sources to MaxCompute. This helps improve data governance and access performance.

ApsaraDB for Redis - Supports Automatic Read/Write Splitting

Tair and ApsaraDB for Redis instances that use cloud disks support automatic read/write splitting. This feature allows you to specify up to five read replicas for an instance and adjust the quantity as needed.

Target customers: users whose business involves significantly more read queries than write queries.

Features released: Tair and ApsaraDB for Redis instances that use cloud disks support automatic read/write splitting. This feature allows you to specify up to five read replicas for an instance and adjust the quantity as needed. Proxy nodes of read/write splitting instances identify queries sent by clients, and route write queries to the master node and read queries to read replicas. This feature allows you to use read/write splitting without any modifications to your code.
