How to Set up and Configure Alibaba Cloud Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible) In-Memory Database

This article explains how to set up and configure Alibaba Cloud Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible) in-memory database

What Is Tair (Redis®* OSS-Compatible)?

Alibaba Cloud Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible) is a fully managed key-value storage cloud database that retrieves data from the in-memory cache to support resource-intensive reads and writes. Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible) is secure, scalable, and supports various data types, such as strings, lists, sets, ordered sets, and hashes.

Alibaba Cloud provides an Individual and Enterprise free trial for Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible). You are eligible for a 4GB Master-Replica Instance for the individual free trial using the Dual-node hot standby architecture and running on the Standard edition of Redis® for one month.

You can run an 8GB Master-Replica instance for the Enterprise free trial, using the dual-node hot-standby architecture running on the Standard edition for two months.

Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible) Core Features

  • Multiple Redis® Editions: Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible) supports multiple editions of Redis®, such as Community edition, Enhanced edition, and Redis® Enterprise edition. Each edition comes with a variety of capabilities to support your specific business requirements.
  • Multiple Redis® Architectures: Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible) supports different business needs through various architectures, such as single shard, master replica, read/write splitting, and distributed cluster architectures.
  • Redis® Data Security: Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible) supports automatic backup and restoration, multi-layer network protection to protect against DDOS attacks, disaster recovery, and in-depth kernel optimization
  • Redis® Dynamic Upgrades: Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible) supports dynamic upgrades to improve your databases' performance, which includes ease in adjusting memory and upgrading the cluster architecture at any time to improve performance.
  • Operations and Maintenance: Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible) integrates well with the Data Management service to monitor CPU utilization, memory, backup and restore operations, and kernel version management.

Setting up and Configuring an Alibaba Cloud Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible) Instance

  • Step 1: In the Alibaba Cloud Console, access the Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible) service under the NoSQL Databases section:

  • Step 2: In the Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible) console, click Create an instance with local disks:

Note: You can optionally select the cloud disks option depending on your preference.

  • Step 3: Select the Product type, Region, Deployment Type, Primary Zone, Network Type, VPC, VSwitch, Edition Type, Redis version, and Architecture Type:

Note for Production grade In-Memory database workloads: You should use the Enhanced edition to meet the Input/Output operations requirements and high-concurrency needs for most high database traffic applications.

  • Step 4: Select the Shards, Node type, Instance specifications, Password setting, and Instance name and click Buy Now.

  • Step 5: Review your configurations, accept the terms of service and click Activate Now:

  • Step 6: After a few minutes, the newly created instance will appear in the Instances section of the Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible) console:

  • Step 7: You need to create an account to access your Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible) instance. Select the Account Management section for your instance and assign the required Username and Password. Click OK to create the new account:

  • Step 8: Click the Log into Database button to log on to your Redis® instance. This will load up the Data Management Service (DMS). Next, insert your Database Type to Redis®, Instance Region, Instance ID, Access Mode, Database Account, and Password and click Login:

  • Step 9: Finally, you can start managing your Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible) from the Data Management Service portal as shown in the picture:
