Alibaba Cloud Day @SAP

On Alibaba Cloud Day, SAP welcomed in some of Alibaba Cloud's brightest minds for a celebration of their strategic partnership and to future new heights of excellence.

SAP was privileged to welcome a delegation of several reputable guests and notable experts from Alibaba Cloud Intelligence this week. Alibaba and SAP executives met and spoke in celebration of Alibaba and SAP's strategic partnership bound for great new heights. Alibaba flew in their chief experts on AI, Machine Learning, IoT, Big Data, Cloud infrastructure, and cloud-native database systems to share their knowledge and experience at the event, with some of SAP's own distinguished technical experts. The event was graced by more than 400 onsite guests and 550 some visitors from all over the globe via SAP broadcasting. The audience was made up of SAP and Alibaba's technical experts and executives as well as a few key Alibaba partners.

The event was held in SAP headquarters' largest event hall, Audimax in St. Leon Rot, and was sponsored by Ken Shen, vice president of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence and president of Global Ecosystem Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, and Stefan Wagner, senior vice president for Strategic Customer Engagements. Stefan Wagner personally manages the Alibaba Program, and he has also hosted and organized SAP's Multi Cloud Teams.

Event Highlights

Ken Shen and Jin Ma, who is the Chief Product Officer at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, presented the executive key notes. Of whom was included a roundtable discussion about the strategic partnership of the two companies led by Jan Schneider, Vice President and Head of Alibaba Program Office. In the roundtable discussion, pictured below, from SAP was Michael Wintergerst, Senior Vice President of SAP Cloud Platform Core Development; Oliver Beck, Senior Vice President of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Delivery; Jett Jiang, Managing Partner of SAP China MU. From Alibaba, there was Ken Shen and Karl Wehner, General Manager of Alibaba Group DACH, from Alibaba Cloud Intelligence.

An ice cream truck rolled along in the afternoon, accompanied by beautiful sunny weather. The ice cream came in flavors special to China, like mango with passion fruit, matcha, and ginger with black sesame.

At the event there also was a lucky draw with an exciting grand prize of two tickets to the FIFA World Cup match in Qatar, and other exciting wins, including two sets of noise-cancelling headphones, five mini-speakers, and Alibaba/Adidas mascot dolls.

Technical key notes held by Alibaba chief experts: Dr. FeiFei Li, President of Database, on cloud-native databases; Dr. Yangqing Jia, President of Data Platform, on Big Data; Prof. Lihi Zelnik, Head of Alibaba DAMO Academy in Israel, on AI and machine learning; Sean Ding, Chief Scientist of AIoT, on IoT and Alex Chen, Senior Director of Product Management, on the topic of Cloud infrastructure.

SAP-specific Alibaba sessions on S/4 HANA Cloud and SAP Cloud Platform's experiences and lessons learned going to China with Alibaba Cloud held by these Lines of Business' chief experts including Alex Von der Marwitz, IT Enterprise Principle Architect, and Matthias Rosker, Cloud Architect – SAP Cloud Platform, Infrastructure and Data Center Strategies. Sessions held by SAP's Multi Cloud China team's Wallace Su, Head of Multicloud Delivery, APJ and China Markets, and Chris Liang, Cloud Delivery Architect, Multicloud Services, on how to onboard to Alibaba in China as well as tips on security and networking in the Alibaba environment.
