DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash Is Now on Alibaba Cloud Token Plan: How to Get Started from $6 a Month

This article provides a setup guide and cost-saving tips for using the agent-optimized DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash model on Alibaba Cloud's Token Plan.

Alibaba Cloud added deepseek-v4.1-flash to Token Plan Personal Edition. DeepSeek built the model for agent work: a 1M-token context, fast inference, and high throughput. Token Plan bills it in Credits against a flat monthly fee and cuts that rate in half between 22:00 and 08:00 (UTC+8).

Built for Agent Work

DeepSeek's release notes attribute the model's behaviour on agent tasks to a new pre-training recipe and a larger RL post-training run. The architecture also targets a compressed KV cache, since cache hits make up a large share of what an agent loop costs.

Two numbers shape how you use the model. Context runs to 1M tokens, so a repository or a long session fits in a single call. Maximum output runs to 393,216 tokens, enough for the model to write out a large diff or a long plan in one turn.

Input takes text and images. You can point the model at a screenshot of a failing test, a diagram, or a page from a design doc, and for a PDF you can send extracted text or page images. Output stays text, so image and video generation belong to other models in the Token Plan catalogue.

Long contexts still cost you, because your harness resends the conversation on every turn. Model Studio's context cache support offsets part of that: cache hits bill below the regular input rate.

Why Run It on Token Plan?

Self-hosting is out of reach for most teams. DeepSeek asks prospective deployment partners for 2k GPU cards and a storage cluster.

Token Plan Personal Edition bills the model in Credits against a flat monthly fee, then adds savings on top:

Layer Effect
Flat monthly fee Predictable spend, with no surprise invoice after a long debugging session
Off-peak Discount The discount list includes deepseek-v4.1-flash. You pay half the Credits between 22:00 and 08:00 (UTC+8)
Context cache Model Studio bills cache hits below the regular input rate

V4.1-Flash returns text. The rest of a real workflow needs output it cannot produce: a generated asset, a video clip, a voice track. Token Plan covers those under the same API Key and the same Credits pool, with qwen-image-3.0-pro and wan2.7-image for image generation, the happyhorse-1.1-* models for video, and the qwen-audio-3.0-* models for speech.

Should you use pay-as-you-go instead?

For production traffic, yes. Token Plan permits interactive use inside coding and agent tools. Automation scripts, application backends, batch calls, and scheduled jobs violate the terms and can get your subscription suspended or your Key banned. Route those calls through a pay-as-you-go API Key (pricing).

Set It Up in Three Steps

Step 1: Subscribe

Open the Token Plan subscription page in the Model Studio console and choose Personal Edition.

Tier Limited-time price Credits per 7-day window
Lite $6/month (list $8) 2,500
Standard $18/month (list $25) 10,000
Pro $68/month (list $80) 40,000

Which tier should you pick? A Flash-class model costs little per call, so Lite covers solo experimentation. Move to Standard once you run parallel agents or long-context sessions.

Personal Edition does not support self-service unsubscription, so read the plan terms before you commit.

Step 2: Get the API Key and Base URL

Generate an API Key on the My Subscription page. The console shows the full Key once, at generation. Copy it before you navigate away.

Token Plan keys start with sk-sp-. They fail against the standard Model Studio endpoints, and standard keys starting with sk- or sk-ws- fail here. Pair each Key with its matching Base URL:

Protocol Base URL
OpenAI-compatible https://token-plan.ap-southeast-1.maas.aliyuncs.com/compatible-mode/v1
Anthropic-compatible https://token-plan.ap-southeast-1.maas.aliyuncs.com/apps/anthropic

Pairing a Key with the wrong Base URL causes most of the 401 errors you will hit.

Step 3: Set the model and verify

Set the model to deepseek-v4.1-flash in your tool, then confirm the chain with one request:

curl -X POST https://token-plan.ap-southeast-1.maas.aliyuncs.com/compatible-mode/v1/chat/completions \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $TOKEN_PLAN_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "model": "deepseek-v4.1-flash",
    "messages": [{"role": "user", "content": "Introduce yourself in one sentence."}],
    "reasoning_effort": 40,
    "stream": true
  }'

A streaming response means the Key, the Base URL, and the model ID all line up. Per-tool configuration steps live in the Token Plan quick start.

How Hard Should the Model Think?

deepseek-v4.1-flash takes an integer from 1 to 100 for reasoning_effort. A larger value means stronger reasoning. Other DeepSeek models on Model Studio use a different format for the same parameter, with enum values rather than integers, so check it before you reuse a configuration from another model.

from openai import OpenAI
import os

client = OpenAI(
    api_key=os.getenv("TOKEN_PLAN_API_KEY"),   # sk-sp-...
    base_url="https://token-plan.ap-southeast-1.maas.aliyuncs.com/compatible-mode/v1",
)

completion = client.chat.completions.create(
    model="deepseek-v4.1-flash",
    messages=[{"role": "user", "content": "Refactor this parser to be streaming-friendly."}],
    reasoning_effort=25,     # routine edits
    # reasoning_effort=85,   # hard architectural work
)

print(completion.choices[0].message.content)

What should you set it to?

  • 20 to 40 for routine edits and questions
  • 60 to 80 for multi-file refactors and hard bug hunts
  • 90 and above for reasoning that nothing cheaper solves

Model Studio bills the chain of thought as output tokens in thinking mode. Setting the parameter to 90 for a variable rename pays for reasoning you never read.

Defaults run temperature 1.0, top_p 1.0, and max_tokens 393,216. DeepSeek tuned the V4 series to run hot, so lower the temperature only with a reason. Function calling, structured output, context cache, and the Responses API all work on this model. Prefix completion does not. The DeepSeek API reference carries the full parameter list.

How Far Do Your Credits Go?

  1. Schedule long runs overnight. Between 22:00 and 08:00 (UTC+8) you pay half the Credits on deepseek-v4.1-flash.
  2. Match effort to the task. Rename a variable at 25. Refactor the parser at 75.
  3. Compress context. /compact summarises history and /clear starts over. Your harness resends the whole conversation each turn, so accumulated history bills on every call.
  4. Keep prefixes stable. A stable system prompt and stable project conventions hit the context cache, and cache hits bill below the regular input rate.
  5. Cap max_tokens. The default sits at 393,216, and Model Studio bills the chain of thought as output tokens. Set a ceiling that matches the answer you expect, so a runaway loop stops instead of draining the window.

One measurement caveat. Harnesses report model-level tokens only, while the console also counts system prompts, tool schemas, conversation history, and reasoning content. The console numbers run higher. Check My Subscription → Usage Analysis when the two disagree.

V4.1-Flash suits long agent runs, and Token Plan turns that work into a flat monthly number. Subscribe, set the model ID, and keep reasoning_effort proportional to the task in front of you.
