IoT Platform offers Standard and Premium Enterprise instances for managing products, devices, message forwarding, data services, and monitoring to meet various business requirements.

Background information

For more information, see Instance overview.

Enterprise instances are available in Standard and Premium types. For more information about the differences between instance types and features, see Differences between Enterprise instance types and features.

Enterprise instances use a subscription billing method. For more information about the billing rules, see Enterprise instances (Subscription).

Limits

  • Standard Enterprise instances are available in all regions that the IoT Platform console supports: China (Shanghai), China (Beijing), China (Shenzhen), Japan (Tokyo), Singapore, Germany (Frankfurt), US (Silicon Valley), and US (Virginia).

  • Premium Enterprise instances are available only in the China (Shanghai), China (Beijing), and China (Shenzhen) regions.

Purchase an Enterprise instance directly

  1. Log on to the IoT Platform console.

  2. On the Instance Overview tab, click Purchase Instance.

Alternatively, on the right side of the Instance Overview tab, click Purchase Enterprise Instance in the Common Entries section.

  3. On the instance purchase page, select the instance specifications that meet your requirements and complete the purchase.

    Specification

    Description

    Region

    Available regions:

    • China: China (Shanghai), China (Beijing), and China (Shenzhen).

    • Asia-Pacific: Singapore and Japan (Tokyo).

    • Europe & Americas: US (Virginia), Germany (Frankfurt), and US (Silicon Valley).

    Important

After you purchase an instance, switch to the region where the instance is located in the IoT Platform console. Otherwise, the purchased instance is not visible.

    Type

    Select Standard or Premium.

For more information about instance types, see Differences between Enterprise instance types and features.

    Important

The Premium type is available only in the China (Shanghai) region.

    Availability

    Optional:

    • Standard (99.95% SLA).

    • High Availability (99.99% SLA): This option uses a multi-unit deployment architecture that supports disaster recovery with two replicas. It provides failover in seconds.

      Important
      • Standard:

        • The China (Shanghai) and China (Beijing) regions support both Standard (99.95% SLA) and High Availability (99.99% SLA). After purchase, you can upgrade from Standard (99.95% SLA) to High Availability (99.99% SLA).

        • Other regions support only Standard (99.95% SLA).

      • Premium:

        • The China (Shanghai) and China (Beijing) regions support only High Availability (99.99% SLA).

        • Other regions support only Standard (99.95% SLA).

    Concurrent Online Devices

The maximum number of devices that can be online simultaneously. The maximum number of connectable devices is 10 × the selected specification.

    Note

For existing instances, the original device count specification is now the limit for Concurrent Online Devices, and the maximum number of connectable devices is the original device count × 10.

    Uplink and Downlink Message TPS

The maximum number of uplink and downlink messages per second. The combined messages sent from all devices to IoT Platform and from IoT Platform to devices cannot exceed this value.

    Note

The message count is calculated regardless of message length.

You can estimate the required specifications based on the number of devices and communication limits. For more information, see Connection and communication.

    Message Forwarding TPS

The maximum number of forwarded messages per second. The combined messages sent to your business server through server-side subscriptions and through data forwarding cannot exceed this value.

    Note

The message count is calculated regardless of message length.

You can estimate the required specifications based on message forwarding limits. For more information, see Server-side subscription and Data forwarding (legacy).

    Data Processing Unit (DPU)

Services such as DataService Studio and O&M statistics consume data processing units. For more information, see Billable items.

This configuration item is displayed only for Standard and Premium instances in the China (Shanghai), China (Beijing), China (Shenzhen), Singapore, and US (Virginia) regions.

    Time Series Data Storage IOPS

The total number of rows of all data written and read per second.

After you set the IOPS, it is allocated by default with a ratio of 90% for writes and 10% for reads. For example, if the IOPS is 1,000, the maximum number of writes is 900 and the maximum number of reads is 100.

For more information about time series storage, see Overview of time series data storage.

This configuration item is displayed only for Standard and Premium instances.

    Time Series Data Storage Space

Stores the time series data reported by devices for read and write operations.

For information about the usage and billing of time series storage space, see Billing of DataService Studio.

This configuration item is displayed only for Standard and Premium instances.

    Offline Data Storage Space

Backs up and analyzes historical data reported by devices.

For more information about offline storage, see Overview of offline storage.

This configuration item is displayed only for Standard and Premium instances in the China (Shanghai), China (Beijing), China (Shenzhen), Singapore, and US (Virginia) regions.

    Resource Group

Select the resource group for the instance. Click Create to create a new resource group. For more information, see Create a resource group.

    Quantity

Select the number of instances to purchase.

    Note

An Alibaba Cloud account can have a maximum of 100 instances.

    Duration

Select the validity period of the instance.

After an instance expires, its service is stopped. If the instance is not renewed within 15 days after expiration, it is released. All data on the instance, such as products and devices, is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

    Warning

Service suspension and data deletion can lead to service unavailability and business disruptions. To avoid disrupting your business, renew your instance before it expires.

After you purchase an instance, go to the IoT Platform console and select the region where the instance resides. On the Instance Overview tab, find the instance card. The card displays information such as the instance ID, instance type, and online device statistics. If you purchased a High-availability Edition instance, a High Availability tag is also displayed.

    Note

A newly purchased Enterprise instance is displayed at the top of the instance list.

Upgrade a new public instance to an Enterprise instance

By default, new public instances provide resources with defined specifications. For more information, see Public instances. If the resource specifications do not meet your business needs, you can upgrade the public instance to an Enterprise instance instead of scaling out resources directly.

Important

After a public instance is upgraded to an Enterprise instance, the upgrade cannot be reverted.

  1. Log on to the IoT Platform console.

  2. From the region drop-down list in the top navigation bar, select China (Shanghai).

  3. On the Instance Overview tab, find the Public Instance card and click Upgrade to Enterprise Edition.

  4. On the instance purchase page, select the instance specifications that meet your requirements and complete the purchase.

For more information about the configurations, see Step 3 in the preceding section.

Next steps

  1. After you activate and configure your instance, connect your devices to IoT Platform for centralized management, data collection and analysis, remote control, and security. To learn how to connect devices, see Device connection guide.

  2. After devices are connected, use topics to send and receive messages, enabling communication between your server, IoT Platform, and devices. For more information, see What is a Topic?.
