Elastic Desktop Service:DesktopAssistant-related rules

Last Updated:Jun 08, 2026

DesktopAssistant rules are one of the cloud computer policies in Elastic Desktop Service (EDS) Enterprise. They control which entries appear in the DesktopAssistant menu on cloud computers.

Use cases

DesktopAssistant is the overlay on the cloud computer desktop. It gives end users quick access to power management, notifications, and settings.

DesktopAssistant rules control which menu items end users see. Use them to expose only the features end users need and hide entries that don't apply to your environment.

Limitations

DesktopAssistant rules apply only to the Windows client (V7.7 or later) and macOS client (V7.7 or later).

DesktopAssistant rule settings

Configuration item

Description

Xiaoying AI Assistant

Default: Enabled. Shows the Xiaoying AI Assistant entry in the DesktopAssistant menu. Disable to hide it.

Metric status monitoring

Default: Disabled. Enable to show the metric status entry in the DesktopAssistant menu. See Metrics for the available indicators.

Data migration tool

Default: Enabled. When enabled, shows the data migration tool in the DesktopAssistant menu, letting end users bulk-migrate data from local devices to cloud computers. Disabling takes effect at the next connection; ongoing migrations are not affected.

Cloud computer dual displays

Default: Enabled. End users can toggle dual displays from the DesktopAssistant menu. When disabled, the setting is hidden and end users cannot use dual displays.

Keyboard Response

Controls how the cloud computer handles keyboard shortcuts and function keys. Requires the Windows or macOS client V8.5 or later. Two modes are available:

  • Customized by End User: End users set the shortcut keypress handler in DesktopAssistant > Settings > Preferences > Control.

  • Managed by Administrator: Once configured, end users cannot change the setting.
