After you log on to a client from an on-premises device and connect to a cloud computer, you can use peripherals from your on-premises device on the cloud computer. Peripherals can be audio or video devices, storage devices, and printers. To use peripherals on a cloud computer, specific prerequisites must be met. This topic provides an overview of supported peripherals, usage requirements, and policy configuration requirements.
Requirements for using peripherals
To use peripherals on a cloud computer, the requirements described in the following table must be met. Generally, the requirements in the following table are prioritized from top to bottom. When you encounter issues with peripherals, you can troubleshoot from bottom to top.
Environment | Dimension | Requirement | Scope of impact | Affected peripherals |
Control layer | Overall permission | The USB Redirection switch in the cloud computer policy is turned on, or a peripheral whitelist is added. | All cloud computers that are associated with the policy | All USB peripherals |
Permission at the device type granularity | The redirection mode for webcams, document cameras, ADB, or printers in the cloud computer policy is set to options other than Deny. | Peripherals of the corresponding type
Custom rules at the peripheral granularity | The redirection mode is set to the correct type in the custom rules for specific peripherals in the cloud computer policy. | Specific peripherals specified in the custom rules
On-premises layer (Only applicable when desktop clients are used) | Environment support | UsbDk is installed. | Cloud computers connected from the Windows client running on the on-premises computer | All USB peripherals |
On-premises device permission | The Allow Peripheral Service to Run as Administrator switch is turned on. | Cloud computers connected from the macOS client running on the on-premises computer | All USB peripherals
Feature support | USB ports or the Bluetooth feature is available. | Cloud computers connected from the client running on the on-premises computer | Peripherals that use the corresponding connection method
Connection status | The peripheral is connected to the Alibaba Cloud Workspace hardware terminal or the on-premises computer running the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client through a USB cable or Bluetooth.
Terminal layer | Permission at the peripheral granularity | The switch for the corresponding peripheral in the peripheral settings module of the hardware terminal or software client is turned on, and the redirection mode is specified correctly. | Cloud computers connected from the client | Specific peripheral |
Image layer | Peripheral connection status in the cloud computer | The status of the corresponding peripheral in the Devices and Printers module of Alibaba Cloud Manager is Connected. | Current cloud computer | Specific peripheral |
Driver status in the cloud computer | The driver for the corresponding peripheral is installed in the cloud computer. | Current cloud computer | Peripherals in the USB redirection mode |
Policy configuration requirements for different types of peripherals
Peripheral control policies are included in cloud computer policies and must be created and maintained by administrators in the console. Different types of peripherals have different requirements for peripheral-related policy configurations in cloud computer policies. For more information, see the following table.
Peripheral type | USB redirection 1 | Redirection mode for the corresponding type of peripheral | Redirection mode for specific peripherals in custom rules | Local disk mapping | Network redirection |
UKey | Enabled | N/A | USB redirection | Conditionally enabled 2 | N/A |
Hand-painted tablets | N/A | N/A | Disable | N/A | N/A |

Printer | Enabled | Device redirection | N/A | N/A | N/A |
USB scanner | Enabled | N/A | USB redirection | N/A | N/A |
Network scanner | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A | Enabled |

Game controller | N/A | N/A | Disable | N/A | N/A |
Mouse | N/A | N/A | Disable | N/A | N/A |
Keyboard | N/A | N/A | Disable | N/A | N/A |
Other types of USB devices | Enabled | N/A | USB redirection | N/A | N/A |
Additional notes:
USB redirection in the cloud computer policy can be globally enabled or enabled for specific USB devices by adding a peripheral whitelist. For more information, see Configure storage devices.
For Ukey devices with CD-ROM storage, if you globally enable USB redirection, you must enable local disk mapping; if you enable USB redirection for specific USB devices by using a peripheral whitelist, you do not need to perform this step.
Supported redirection policies
The following table shows the support for peripheral redirection policies by different types of Alibaba Cloud Workspace client.
