ApsaraVideo VOD provides capabilities for managing, processing, and protecting video content across four areas: media asset management, media processing, intelligent production, and video encryption.

Media asset management

Media asset storage: ApsaraVideo VOD stores multiple copies of data with remote disaster recovery and resource isolation, guaranteeing 99.999999999% (eleven 9s) data reliability.

Media asset management: Manage your media assets through the ApsaraVideo VOD console or API operations. Supported operations include retrieving and updating media asset information, searching for media assets, and downloading or deleting media files.

Video copyright protection: ApsaraVideo VOD uses media fingerprinting to uniquely identify each video. By extracting and comparing fingerprint features from the visual and audio tracks, the service detects duplicate videos, traces the source of video clips, and flags user-generated content (UGC).

Automated review: ApsaraVideo VOD provides automated review, manual review, and security review configuration for videos, audio, images, and text. Automated review detects non-compliant content such as pornography and terrorism, reducing manual review workload.

Media processing

Audio and video transcoding: Transcode an audio or video stream into one or more output streams optimized for different network bandwidths, device capabilities, and playback environments.

Video snapshot: Capture still images from any point in a video to generate image files.

Frame animation: Convert a selected segment of a video into an animation file.

Video watermarking: Embed image or text watermarks into video streams during transcoding to produce watermarked output files.

Workflows: Define reusable pipelines that chain multiple media processing steps together. Configure a workflow once and apply it consistently across your content, instead of calling individual API operations for each task.

Adaptive bitrate streaming: ApsaraVideo VOD transcodes a video into multiple streams at different bitrates and packages them into a single output file. Players automatically switch to the stream that best matches the viewer's network bandwidth.

Intelligent production

Online editing

: The online editing service is the production center of ApsaraVideo VOD. It lets you cut and merge videos, mix audio, add subtitles, overlay images, mask videos, and apply transition effects.

  • Cutting and merging: Merge multiple videos, trim a clip by retaining its beginning, end, or middle, and combine segments from different source videos.

  • Audio processing: Mix audio tracks, extract audio, adjust volume, and add dubbing.

  • Image overlay: Overlay an image on one or more videos for the full duration or within a specified time interval.

  • Text overlay: Overlay text on a video for its full duration or within a specified time interval.

Media fingerprint: Extract and compare fingerprint features from the visual and audio tracks of videos to detect duplicate content, trace the origin of video clips, and identify UGC.

Smart tag: Automatically generates multi-dimensional content tags by analyzing visual, text, voice, and behavioral signals in a video using multimodal fusion and alignment technology, converting unstructured video content into structured metadata.

Intelligent thumbnail: Analyzes video content to select five representative snapshots as candidate thumbnails. Keyframes can also be extracted and automatically compiled into a GIF file to serve as an animated thumbnail.

Video encryption

Proprietary cryptography: Converts video files to an encrypted HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) format decryptable only by ApsaraVideo Player, ensuring playback security on mobile devices and Flash players. This option suits high-security scenarios such as online education and subscription-based viewing.

HLS encryption: Encrypts video content using the HLS AES-128 standard. Encrypted videos play on any HLS-compatible player, combining broad device support with strong security on mobile devices.

Commercial digital rights management (DRM): Integrates with industry-standard DRM platforms—Microsoft PlayReady, Apple FairPlay, and Google Widevine—to deliver high-level content protection for large-scale, copyrighted content distribution.
