Server Migration Center (SMC) provides the image check feature to check images. For example, the feature checks whether an image is valid and whether an image can be used to create full-featured Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances. The image check feature is enabled by default when you create a server migration job. This feature helps you identify potential issues in images or on ECS instances after the migration job is complete, and provides solutions to the identified issues. This helps you improve the success rate of starting ECS instances. This topic mainly introduces how to enable or disable the image check feature.
Usage scenarios
Image check is enabled by default when you can migrate a server to an ECS custom image. If you have not enabled image check in the previous migration configuration or migration template, we recommend that you enable this function during the migration to improve the success rate of the migration.
The check items for supported Linux images and Windows images are different. You can learn about the supported check items by seeing Image check items and make repairs according to the suggestions to help improve the image quality.
The image check is triggered after the image is created and does not affect the image creation process (even if the check fails). For more information, see Overview.
Usage scope
This function can be used for image check only when you select ECS Image as the destination type.
Limits
Some operating systems do not support the image check feature. For Linux and Windows operating systems that do not support image check, see Operating systems that do not support image check.
If the operating system you migrate is in the unsupported list, you may not be able to see the Image check option on the migration configuration page, which is normal.
Billing
You can use the image check feature free of charge.
Procedure
During the migration configuration phase, the image check feature is enabled. After the migration is completed, an image check result is generated.
Enable the image check feature in the migration configuration.
This example only describes how to enable and disable the image check feature. For more information about other parameters of a migration job, see Migrate a server to an ECS instance or Create an agentless migration task for a VMware VM.
Set the Destination Type parameter to ECS Image.
Turn on or off Image Check in Advanced Settings.
: Indicates that the image check feature is enabled. This feature is enabled by default.
: Indicates that the image check feature is disabled. If not required, this feature can be disabled manually.
Wait until the migration is complete.
On the Migration Jobs page, wait until the migration job is complete. You can view the migration speed and remaining synchronization duration. If the state of the migration job changes to Completed, the migration is successful.
View the image check results.
After the migration is complete, the Migration Deliverables column shows Check Completed. Click View Report to view the image check results.
In the Image Check Results dialog box, view the image check results.
If there are no recommended fixes, you can use the image to create an ECS instance.
If there are fixing items, we recommend that you fix it according to Image check items, and then create an ECS instance. Otherwise, the ECS instance may fail to be created.
What to do next
After the image check is complete, create an ECS instance based on the generated custom image.
