Service Catalog leverages the infrastructure as code (IaC) capabilities of Alibaba Cloud to build a curated list of IT services with governance constraints. It simplifies cloud product selection and accelerates IT service delivery.
How it works
Service Catalog works as follows:
-
An administrator creates a product from a Terraform template and adds it to a product portfolio for centralized management.
-
The administrator grants end users permissions to launch and access the product.
-
End users find and launch the product. A stack is created in the corresponding region of the Resource Orchestration Service (ROS) console to manage the associated cloud resources.
-
End users manage the cloud resources in the Service Catalog console.

Features
-
Product and portfolio management
-
Define compliant products with Terraform and manage multiple versions.
-
Create portfolios, add existing products, and grant end users access and launch permissions.
-
Manage all product instances within your account. If a user's role changes, take over their instances to prevent business disruptions.
-
-
Product launch and instance management
-
Browse the product list and launch products on demand.
-
Query, update, and stop product instances to manage cloud resource lifecycles.
-
Benefits
-
Secure and compliant resource usage
Use Terraform to define compliance rules for types, specifications, naming conventions, and orchestration across 104 Alibaba Cloud services. Supported Alibaba Cloud services.
-
Faster resource delivery
End users provision compliant cloud resources on their own, accelerating delivery.
-
Simplified lifecycle management
Marshaling lets you query, update, and stop a group of cloud resources as a single unit.
-
Centralized management
Configure compliance settings centrally and share them across multiple enterprise Alibaba Cloud accounts.
Scenarios
-
Administrators customize compliant enterprise products
Customize products to meet enterprise security and compliance requirements. For example, create an Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance restricted to specific specifications to reduce security risks and prevent cost overruns.
-
End users quickly create cloud infrastructure
A product can range from a single server to a full website with a database, middleware, and servers. Grant end users minimum permissions to launch products, reducing the need to switch between service consoles.
-
Minimize permissions for enterprise employees
Grant enterprise employees access to only specific Service Catalog products, avoiding risks from excessive permissions.
