Serverless App Engine (SAE) uses a service-linked role (SLR) to access other Alibaba Cloud resources. This topic describes the use cases for SLRs and how to create and delete them.
What is an SLR?
In some scenarios, SAE needs to access other cloud services for full functionality. For example, when you create an application, SAE may need to retrieve information about your resources, such as your Virtual Private Cloud (VPC). An SLR grants SAE the required permissions to access services like VPC. This method securely delegates only the necessary permissions, which reduces the risk of operational errors. The permission policy for an SLR is predefined and managed by the linked service. You cannot modify or delete the policy, attach additional policies to the role, or detach them. }Create an SLR
SAE can create its SLR automatically. If the SLR has not been created, the Welcome to Serverless App Engine (SAE) dialog box appears when you log on to the SAE console. Click Confirm to create the SLR.
The dialog box states that the new role is named AliyunServiceRoleForSAE and uses the AliyunServiceRolePolicyForSAE policy. This role allows SAE to access cloud resources such as VPC, RDS, ECS, SLB, Container Registry (ACR), Log Service (SLS), Apsara File Storage (NAS), and Application Real-Time Monitoring Service (ARMS). This access is required for operations such as pulling images, collecting monitoring data, exporting logs, and persisting data.
Note
The Welcome to Serverless App Engine (SAE) dialog box will continue to appear each time you log on to the SAE console until you create the SLR.
Delete an SLR
If you need to delete the SLR, you must first delete all applications that the Alibaba Cloud account deployed on SAE.

After you delete the SLR, you can no longer use SAE. Proceed with caution.
