Tair (Redis® OSS-Compatible):Set a maintenance window

Last Updated:Aug 27, 2026

Schedule maintenance operations — configuration changes, version upgrades, and restarts — for your Tair (Redis OSS-compatible) instance to run during off-peak hours by setting a maintenance window.

How it works

Alibaba Cloud performs periodic maintenance on Tair instances to ensure stability. On days when maintenance is scheduled, the instance enters the Maintaining Instance state some time before the maintenance window starts.

During the Maintaining Instance state:

  • Read access and data queries to the database remain available, including performance monitoring queries.

  • Instance configuration changes through the console are temporarily unavailable.

When the maintenance window begins, transient connections may occur. Set the maintenance window to a low-traffic period — for example, 02:00–04:00 — to minimize the impact on your application.

Note

Before the maintenance window starts, Alibaba Cloud sends notifications by text message and email to the contacts associated with your account.

Note

The console displays times in your local time zone.

Note

Instances may temporarily disconnect when you make changes to them. For example, an instance is disconnected when you change its configurations. To minimize the impact on your business, we recommend that you perform these operations during the maintenance window.

Warning

Transient connections may occur after the maintenance window starts. Set the window to off-peak hours to reduce the impact on running applications.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure that you have:

Set the maintenance window

  1. Log on to the console and go to the Instances page.

  2. In the top navigation bar, select the region where your instance resides, then click the instance ID.

  3. In the Basic Information section, click Modify to the right of Maintenance Window.

  4. Select the time period that fits your traffic patterns.

Configuration change status during the waiting period

When you initiate a configuration change and select Execute during maintenance window, the instance status changes to Changing Configurations after the order is placed. At this point, the configuration change task has been submitted but is paused. The actual switchover does not start until the maintenance window begins. As a result, this status may last for several hours, which is expected.

During the waiting period before the maintenance window:

  • Normal data read and write operations are not affected.

  • Modification operations in the console that involve this instance, such as another configuration change, a restart, or a parameter change, are temporarily unavailable.

  • Query operations, such as viewing monitoring data and logs, work as expected.

FAQ

Why does the instance remain in the Changing Configurations state after I place an order?

If you selected Execute during maintenance window, the task is paused after the order is placed and automatically starts when the maintenance window begins. During this period, database access is not affected, but modification operations in the console are limited.

Can I end the Changing Configurations state early?

If the task has not entered the actual switchover phase, some scenarios allow you to cancel the task or switch to immediate execution. The available options depend on what the console shows.
