ApsaraDB RDS:Manage alerts

Last Updated:Mar 28, 2026

ApsaraDB RDS monitoring and alerting is powered by CloudMonitor. When a metric crosses a threshold you define, CloudMonitor sends email notifications to every contact in your alert contact group.

Two approaches are available:

  • Initiative Alert — one toggle activates a preconfigured set of rules for key metrics. Use this for fast coverage with no manual configuration.

  • Custom alert rule — you define the metric, threshold, and notification method. Use this when Initiative Alert does not cover a specific metric or threshold you need.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • An ApsaraDB RDS instance

  • At least one alert contact and alert contact group configured in CloudMonitor

Enable Initiative Alert

Turning on Initiative Alert immediately creates an alerting mechanism for your RDS instance using the preconfigured metrics and thresholds shown on the page.

  1. Go to the Instances page. In the top navigation bar, select the region where your instance resides.

  2. Find the instance and click its ID.

  3. In the left-side navigation pane, click Monitoring and Alerts.

  4. Click the Alerts tab, then turn on Initiative Alert.

The metrics and alert rules displayed on the page are the ones that take effect.

Create a custom alert rule

Before creating a custom alert rule, call the custom monitoring operation to report your metrics to CloudMonitor. Then configure alert rules for those metrics in CloudMonitor.

To create a custom alert rule, go to CloudMonitor alert rules and follow the steps in Create an alert rule.

When a metric reaches the threshold you specify, CloudMonitor sends a notification using the method you configured.

Manage existing alert rules

After creating an alert rule, you can modify, disable, enable, or delete it. You can also review historical alerts to investigate and resolve exceptions.

For step-by-step instructions, see Manage alert rules.

What's next

  • To set up alert contacts and alert contact groups, see the CloudMonitor documentation.

  • To review triggered alerts and handle exceptions, open the Alerts tab in Monitoring and Alerts for your instance.
