To provide better services, ApsaraDB RDS is undergoing the transformation to the cloud-native architecture. Starting September 1, 2023, Premium Local SSDs are no longer available for new ApsaraDB RDS for PostgreSQL purchases. Select enterprise SSD (ESSD) as the storage type when creating instances after this date.
Effective date
September 01, 2023
Involved instances
ApsaraDB RDS for PostgreSQL instances that use Premium Local SSDs.
Impact on new instances
You can no longer create ApsaraDB RDS for PostgreSQL instances that run PostgreSQL 10 with Premium Local SSDs through the ApsaraDB RDS console or the CreateDBInstance API operation.
Create instances that run a later major engine version instead. For details, see Create an ApsaraDB RDS for PostgreSQL instance and Instance types for primary ApsaraDB RDS for PostgreSQL instances.
The open source PostgreSQL community stopped maintaining PostgreSQL 10 on November 10, 2022.
Impact on existing instances
Alibaba Cloud no longer provides the following for ApsaraDB RDS for PostgreSQL instances that run PostgreSQL 10 with Premium Local SSDs:
-
Kernel updates and security patches
-
Maintenance for known issues
-
New features
Technical support for these instances remains available.
Staying on PostgreSQL 10 with Premium Local SSDs exposes your instances to unfixed security vulnerabilities. Upgrade to ESSD storage before the effective date. During the major engine version upgrade, select PL1 ESSD, PL2 ESSD, or PL3 ESSD as the storage type. For instructions, see Upgrade the major engine version of an ApsaraDB RDS for PostgreSQL instance.
