Network traffic fees for cross-region backups are calculated as follows:
Fee = Total size of data backup files and log backup files × Unit price of network traffic
For example, you back up the data of an RDS instance from the China (Hangzhou) region to the China (Beijing) region, and the total size of the backup files is 100 GB. Before the price reduction, the unit price is USD 0.12 per GB. After the price reduction, the unit price is USD 0.075 per GB.
Fee for network traffic for cross-region backups before the price reduction: 100 × USD 0.12 = USD 12
Fee for network traffic for cross-region backups after the price reduction: 100 × USD 0.075 = USD 7.5
After the price reduction, the fee for network traffic for cross-region backups is USD 7.5, which is USD 4.5 less than the fee before the price reduction.
For example, backing up an RDS instance from China (Hangzhou) to China (Beijing) with 100 GB of backup files:
| Unit price | Fee for 100 GB | |
|---|---|---|
| Before May 26, 2023 | USD 0.12/GB | USD 12.00 |
| From May 26, 2023 | USD 0.075/GB | USD 7.50 |
The price reduction saves you USD 4.50 on every 100 GB of cross-region backup traffic.
Starting May 26, 2023, you are charged for network traffic that is generated during cross-region backups based on the new unit price. For more information, see network traffic fees.
Cross-region backup
Cross-region backup lets you replicate backup data from one region to another to meet regulatory requirements or support disaster recovery. The feature includes:
Automatic data backup — Full data backup and incremental log backup run automatically, with no manual operations required.
Cross-region data replication — Backup data is automatically replicated to an RDS instance or PolarDB cluster in a different region for geo-disaster recovery.
Flexible backup policies — Configure full data backup and incremental log backup policies, and set retention periods for backup sets.
High data security — Backup data is encrypted in transit.
Ease of use — Enable or disable the feature from the ApsaraDB RDS or PolarDB console.
