Last Updated:Oct 13, 2023

Starting May 26, 2023, the unit price for network traffic that is generated during cross-region backups is reduced for PolarDB for MySQL clusters and RDS instances that run MySQL, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.

Effective date

May 26, 2023

Price reduction rate

37.5%

Note

Starting May 26, 2023, you are charged for network traffic that is generated during cross-region backups based on the new unit price. For more information, see Network traffic fees.

Billing examples

Fee for network traffic for cross-region backups = Total size of data backup files and log backup files × Unit price of network traffic

For example, you back up the data of an RDS instance from the China (Hangzhou) region to the China (Beijing) region, and the total size of the backup files is 100 GB. Before the price reduction, the unit price is USD 0.12 per GB. After the price reduction, the unit price is USD 0.075 per GB.

  • Fee for network traffic for cross-region backups before the price reduction: 100 × USD 0.12 = USD 12

  • Fee for network traffic for cross-region backups after the price reduction: 100 × USD 0.075 = USD 7.5

After the price reduction, the fee for network traffic for cross-region backups is USD 7.5, which is USD 4.5 less than the fee before the price reduction.

Cross-region backup feature

The cross-region backup feature is supported for PolarDB for MySQL clusters and RDS instances that run MySQL, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL. You can use the feature to back up data from a region to another region to meet regulatory requirements or achieve disaster recovery. The cross-region backup feature provides the following benefits:

  • Automatic data backup: The feature supports automatic backup. No manual operations are required.

  • Cross-region data replication: The backed up data is automatically replicated to an RDS instance or PolarDB cluster that resides in a different region. This helps achieve geo-disaster recovery and backup.

  • Flexible backup policies: You can configure backup policies, including policies for full data backup and incremental log backup, in a flexible manner. You can also specify the retention period of backup sets.

  • High data security: Backup data is encrypted during transmission to ensure data security.

  • Ease of use: You can enable or disable the feature in the ApsaraDB RDS or PolarDB console.
