ApsaraDB RDS:Manage alerts

Last Updated:Mar 28, 2026

ApsaraDB RDS integrates with CloudMonitor to notify you when key metrics cross thresholds or when your instance is locked due to insufficient storage. Notifications are sent by email to all contacts in your alert contact group.

Background information

The monitoring and alerting feature of ApsaraDB RDS is implemented by using CloudMonitor. CloudMonitor allows you to configure metrics and alert rules. When a condition specified for an alert rule is met, CloudMonitor sends alert notifications to all alert contacts in your alert contact group by sending emails. You can manage the alert contact group that corresponds to a monitoring metric. When an alert is triggered, the system can notify alert contacts in the alert contact group at the earliest opportunity.

Turn on Initiative Alert

Initiative Alert is a one-click option that instantly activates an alerting mechanism for key metrics on your RDS instance. Use this option if you want alert coverage without configuring individual rules.

For details on what Initiative Alert covers, see Enable the initiative alert feature.

  1. Go to the Instances page. In the top navigation bar, select the region where your instance resides, then click the instance ID.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Monitoring and Alerts.

  3. Click the Alerts tab.

  4. In the upper-right corner of the tab, turn on Initiative Alert.

Create an alert rule

Creating an alert rule requires two steps in the CloudMonitor console: setting up an alert contact group (who receives notifications) and defining the alert rule (which metric and threshold to monitor).

CloudMonitor can also monitor resources automatically based on tags. See Monitor resources based on tags.
  1. Go to the Instances page. In the top navigation bar, select the region where your instance resides, then click the instance ID.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Monitoring and Alerts.

  3. Click the Alerts tab.

  4. In the upper-right corner of the tab, click Alert Rule Settings to open the CloudMonitor console.

  5. Create an alert contact group and an alert rule:

Manage alert rules

View, modify, enable, disable, or delete existing alert rules from the CloudMonitor console.

  5. On the Alert Rules page, find the rule and choose an action:

    ActionDescription
    DetailsView the alert rule details.
Alert HistoryView alerts triggered by this rule within a specified time range.
ModifyEdit the alert rule. See Create an alert rule for field descriptions.
DisablePause the alert rule. No alerts fire while the rule is disabled, even if the metric meets the threshold.
EnableReactivate a disabled alert rule. Alerts resume firing when conditions are met.
DeletePermanently remove the alert rule. Deleted rules cannot be restored; re-create the rule if needed.
