Last Updated:Jun 03, 2026

Create, delete, and manage Prometheus instances, including tags, billing methods, storage duration, and aggregation settings.

Prerequisites

ARMS is activated. Activate ARMS.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Managed Service for Prometheus console

  2. In the navigation pane on the left, choose Managed Service for Prometheus > Instances to open the instance list for Managed Service for Prometheus.

  3. On the Instances page, create Prometheus instances or view Prometheus instance details, including region, type, tags, and billing method.

Create an instance

  1. On the Instances page, click Create Prometheus instance.

  2. On the Create instance page, set the parameters and click Create Now.

Edit an instance

After creating a Managed Service for Prometheus instance, edit its tags, billing method, storage duration, and aggregation settings.

Manage tags

Tags are key-value pairs that categorize instances.

Note
  • Each instance supports up to 20 tags. Keys must be unique; adding a duplicate key overwrites the value.

  • Tags are specific to a region.

  • Unbound tags are automatically deleted.

Create a tag

  1. On the Instances page, select a region from the top navigation bar. Then, in the Tag column for the target instance, click the image icon.

  2. Click Edit to open the Edit Tag tab.

  3. Enter a Tag Key and Label Value, then click OK.

Filter instances by tag

Use assigned tags to filter instances.

  1. On the Instances page, select a region from the top navigation bar. Then, on the Instances tab, click Filter by tag.

  2. Select the desired tag key and value.

Remove a tag

Remove unused tags from instances.

  1. On the Instances page, select a region from the top navigation bar. Then, in the Tag column for the target instance, click the image icon.

  2. Click Edit to open the Edit Tag tab.

  3. Click the image.png icon next to the tag that you want to remove, then click OK.

Change the billing method

Prometheus supports pay-as-you-go, subscription, and pay-by-observable-data billing. You can switch from pay-as-you-go or subscription to pay-by-observable-data. Switch billing methods.

Set the storage duration

Data is stored for 90 days by default. To extend retention, adjust the setting on the Retention Period page.

  1. On the Instances page, select a region from the top navigation bar, then click the target instance name.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Modify, then click the Retention Period tab.

  3. On the Storage Days tab, select the desired storage duration, then click Save.

    Note

Supported values: 90 or 180 days.

Configure aggregation instances

A global aggregation instance aggregates data from other Prometheus instances for centralized monitoring and management.

  1. On the Instances page, select a region from the top navigation bar. Then, in the Actions column of the target instance, click Edit.

  2. On the Edit aggregate instance page, select the instances to aggregate and click Edit aggregate instance.

    Parameter

    Description

    Global aggregation instance name

Custom name for the global aggregation instance.

    Endpoint

Region where the aggregation instance is deployed.

Select the instances to be aggregated

Source account and instances to aggregate.

Delete an instance

Important

When a Prometheus instance is deleted, all monitoring data, dashboards, alert rules, and service discovery configurations are permanently removed.

  1. On the Instances page, select a region from the top navigation bar. Then, in the Actions column of the target instance, click Delete.

  2. In the dialog box, click Confirm.
