    PolarDB:Change ESSD performance

    Enhanced SSD (ESSD) is a high-performance block storage service from Alibaba Cloud, ideal for applications that require low latency and high I/O.

    Limitations

    Note

    • The time required to modify a disk depends on factors such as throughput during the modification, storage capacity, and the original disk type. The process may take several hours.

    • This change does not interrupt your services, but you cannot expand the storage capacity or create a backup during the process.

    • You can change the provisioned IOPS of an ESSD AutoPL up to twice within a 24-hour period.

    • If you change a disk from another type (such as PL0 ESSD, PL1 ESSD, PL2 ESSD, or PL3 ESSD) to an ESSD AutoPL and set a value for provisioned IOPS, you cannot modify the disk again within 24 hours.

    • In the Change Storage Type dialog box, select a Target Disk Type. Supported modifications vary by disk type:

      Note

      • After you change a PL0 ESSD to a PL1, PL2, or PL3 ESSD, you cannot downgrade it to a PL0 ESSD.

      • You can modify an ESSD AutoPL, but you cannot change it to another disk type.

      • A PL0 ESSD can be changed to the following types:

        • PL1 ESSD, PL2 ESSD, or PL3 ESSD

        • ESSD AutoPL

      • You can make the following changes to PL1, PL2, and PL3 ESSDs:

        • Change between the PL1, PL2, and PL3 performance tiers.

        • Change to an ESSD AutoPL.

    Procedure

    1. Log on to the PolarDB console.

    2. In the navigation pane on the left, click Clusters.

    3. In the upper-left corner, select the region where the cluster is deployed.

    4. Find the target cluster and click its ID.

    5. Go to the Basic Information page of the cluster.

    6. In the Distributed Storage section, click Change Storage Type in the upper-right corner. Then, select Downgrade or Upgrade based on your business requirements.

      Important

      If you receive the error Storage must bigger than xxx GB, current is xxGB when selecting Upgrade Storage Type, it means your cluster's storage capacity is insufficient. To prevent the upgrade from failing, first click Change Storage Capacity to expand the storage capacity. After the storage is expanded, proceed with the upgrade. For more information, see Manually scale up or scale down storage space.

    7. In the Distributed Storage section, from the Storage Type drop-down list, select the target disk type.

      Available storage types include PL2 ESSD, PL3 ESSD, and ESSD AutoPL. If you select ESSD AutoPL, you must also configure parameters such as I/O Performance Burst (Enabled or Disabled) and Switching Time (Switch Now or Switch At), and accept the Terms of Service.

      Note

      The provisioned IOPS for an AutoPL disk ranges from 0 to 50,000. This means that the total maximum IOPS for a PolarDB cluster is 100,000.

    8. Set Switch Now to Switch Now or Switch At.

      Note

      If you select Switch At, you can specify a time within the next 24 hours. You can also view or cancel the task on the Scheduled Tasks page. For more information, see Scheduled tasks.

    9. Read and accept the Terms of Service, and then click Buy Now.

    10. On the Pay page, confirm the order details and click Subscribe.
