Platform For AI:AI Design (PAI ArtLab)

Last Updated:May 27, 2026

PAI ArtLab is a cloud-based AI design platform built on Platform for AI (PAI). It provides cloud-hosted Stable Diffusion, ComfyUI, and Kohya for image/video generation and model training, covering the full AIGC lifecycle from dataset annotation to application deployment. ArtLab also offers unified access management, AI art education resources, and end-to-end toolchain optimization.

Log on to the PAI ArtLab console.

Background information

Applying AIGC models typically requires significant AI expertise and programming skills, resulting in steep learning curves and high deployment costs. ArtLab removes this complexity with an intuitive console interface that enables code-free AI design workflows.

Video introduction

Features

Toolbox

The Toolbox provides one-click deployment of Stable Diffusion WebUI, Kohya, and ComfyUI. You can run text-to-image, image-to-image, animated image, and video generation tasks, install model plug-ins, build custom workflows, and train proprietary models.

Included tools:

  • Stable Diffusion WebUI: Text-to-image, image-to-image, and animated image generation.

    image

  • Kohya: Batch dataset annotation and fine-tuned model training.

    image

  • ComfyUI: Node-based visual workflow builder for generation pipelines.

    image

Datasets

Upload and manage image datasets in the cloud. Kohya performs automated batch annotation on uploaded images. You can also manually refine annotations to prepare training data for domain-specific models.

Models

The Model Marketplace offers 400+ fine-tuned models with authorized open-source licenses. Add models to My Models with one click, select models for generation, or upload custom local models. All models in Model Marketplace and My Models integrate seamlessly with popular tools for streamlined image generation.

Workflows

The Workflow Marketplace provides 30+ pre-built workflows for common generation tasks. Run any workflow with one click to produce images and videos.

Applications

ArtLab provides ready-to-use AIGC applications for HD image upscaling, product poster generation, image variation, and video synthesis.

Developer Center

The Developer Center provides service management, dedicated resource provisioning, API debugging and integration, and monitoring for enterprise AIGC deployments.

You can start, stop, and delete Toolbox services.

Terms

  • Workspace

A workspace corresponds to a project and isolates assets and resources. Activating ArtLab creates a default workspace. You can also create additional workspaces. Characteristics:

    • Workspaces are region-specific. Workspaces in China (Shanghai) differ from those in China (Hangzhou).

    • Assets are isolated between workspaces. Workspace A and Workspace B maintain separate Datasets and My Models content.

  • Region

A region is a cluster of data centers in a specific geographic location. Storage and computing resources operate independently across regions.

If resource constraints cause slow tool startup in your current region, hover over the image icon in the upper-right corner to switch regions. We recommend the China (Shanghai) region for best availability.

    Note

Before switching regions, stop all services in the current region to avoid incurring unnecessary charges.

  • Bucket

ArtLab uses OSS as its storage backend. Activating ArtLab provisions a default OSS bucket that stores all datasets, models, and generated content.

To view bucket files, hover over the image icon in the upper-right corner and click Storage. You can also upload models, nodes, and other resources through the OSS console.

  • Service

A service is a long-running process deployed with model files and inference code. In the Developer Center, you can create, stop, start, delete, and monitor services. Each web-accessible tool corresponds to a managed service.

  • Shared and Exclusive editions

The Shared edition starts faster and uses fewer resources. It has limited model plug-in support but meets basic AI art needs—recommended during free trials or under resource constraints. The Exclusive edition has longer startup times and higher resource use but provides full plug-in capabilities for advanced customization.

    Difference

    Shared edition

    Exclusive edition

    Resource difference

Shared compute resources across multiple users.

Dedicated compute resources for exclusive use.

    Billing difference

No charge for tool startup. You are billed only for actual GPU time consumed during image generation tasks.

For example, if you start a tool, initiate generation on the tool's WebUI, and an image renders in 10 seconds, you are charged for 10 seconds of GPU usage.

Billing begins immediately after successful tool launch and continues until the tool is stopped. You are billed hourly based on the instance type selected at startup.

For example, billing starts when the tool's WebUI becomes accessible. If the tool remains active for 20 minutes, you are billed for 20 minutes regardless of actual usage. Closing the browser tab terminates the tool and stops billing.

Difference in custom installation of models and node plug-ins

Does not support custom plug-in installation. Only essential pre-installed plug-ins are available, including text-to-image, image-to-image, and ControlNet.

Supports custom model, node, and plug-in installation. Upload a local model to the PAI ArtLab platform.

    Difference in generation task queuing

Queuing may occur during peak hours.

    No queuing.

ArtLab Advantages

  • Unified platform: End-to-end AI design capabilities covering dataset management, annotation, model curation, training, and content generation.

  • Low barrier to entry: No self-hosted deployment required. Code-free automation of AI design workflows.

  • Extensive model and plug-in ecosystem: Model Marketplace with Checkpoint and LoRA models, plus mainstream Stable Diffusion plug-ins.

  • Elastic cloud computing: High-performance Alibaba Cloud compute with hybrid cluster scheduling and pay-as-you-go auto-scaling to minimize queuing.

Dependent cloud products

ArtLab integrates with the following Alibaba Cloud services:

  • Object Storage Service (OSS): Storage, preview, and download for models, images, videos, and text files.

  • Elastic Algorithm Service (PAI-EAS): Cloud GPU infrastructure for online model inference.
