Last Updated:Aug 30, 2023

ossbrowser is a graphical management tool developed by Alibaba Cloud. This tool provides features that are similar to the features of Windows Explorer. You can use ossbrowser to manage objects and buckets.

Video tutorial

The following video shows how to use ossbrowser.

ossbrowser is installed, and you are logged on to ossbrowser. For more information, see Install and log on to ossbrowser.

Operations related to buckets or objects

You can use ossbrowser to perform the same bucket-level or object-level operations that you can perform in the Object Storage Service (OSS) console. You can follow the on-screen instructions in ossbrowser to manage buckets and objects.

To perform operations related to buckets or objects, you must have the required permissions. For more information, see Permission management.

Bucket-related operations

  • Create buckets

A bucket is a container used to store objects in OSS. Before you upload an object to OSS, you must create a bucket. For more information about how to specify the name, region, access control list (ACL), and storage class of a bucket when you create the bucket, see Create buckets.

  • Delete buckets

If you no longer use a bucket, delete the bucket to stop unnecessary charges. For more information, see Delete buckets.

Object-related operations

You can use ossbrowser to upload, download, preview, move, and copy objects, and share the URLs of objects. When you use ossbrowser to perform object-related operations, take note of the following items:

  • By default, ossbrowser uses multipart upload and resumable upload to upload objects. The object that you want to upload cannot exceed 48.8 TB in size. If an upload is interrupted before the upload is complete, the uploaded portion is stored as parts in an OSS bucket. If you no longer need these parts, you can use one of the following methods to delete the parts to avoid additional storage fees.

If the uploaded object has the same name as an existing object in the bucket, the existing object is overwritten.

  • The object that you can move or copy by using ossbrowser cannot exceed 5 GB in size. To move or copy objects that are larger than 5 GB, we recommend that you use ossutil.

  • You can share the URL of an object with third parties. This way, the third parties can download or preview the object. For more information, see Share objects.

For more information about other object-related operations, see OSS Console User Guide.
