An MPS queue holds asynchronous tasks and schedules them based on priority and submission order. Learn about the basic concepts and limits of ApsaraVideo Media Processing (MPS) queues.
Terms
-
An MPS queue can be enabled or disabled. When disabled, jobs in the queue are not scheduled until the queue is enabled again. Jobs that are already running are not affected.
-
Tasks in a pipeline can be assigned multiple priorities.
-
Jobs submitted through API operations can have priorities from 1 to 10.
-
Jobs submitted in the MPS console have a fixed priority of 6.
-
Jobs with the same priority run in submission order. Jobs with different priorities run in descending priority order.
-
Scenarios
-
You can create multiple pipelines to manage different production queues separately.
-
Enable or disable an MPS queue and set job priorities as needed.
-
Enable message notifications and set the Message Service (MNS) message type for an MPS queue to receive notifications about asynchronous job results.
-
Configure alert rules for an MPS queue to monitor metrics such as the number of transcoding jobs.
Limits
Pipeline types vary in their creation limits, supported features, and concurrency.
-
Maximum number of MPS queues: By default, each region within an Alibaba Cloud account supports one MPS queue for high-speed transcoding, one default MPS queue for intelligent production, and four MPS queues of other types.
-
Features: Each MPS queue type processes specific job types. Submitting an unsupported job type causes the job to fail.
-
Concurrency: Each MPS queue type has a different concurrency limit. Jobs that exceed the limit are queued. For more information, see the following table.
MPS queues of the same type in each region within an Alibaba Cloud account share the same concurrency limit.
|
Pipeline Type |
Applicable features |
Default concurrency limit |
|
Standard pipeline |
Supports custom templates, customized templates, preset templates (except Narrowband HD™ 2.0 and super-resolution templates), asynchronous snapshot jobs, and media information analysis jobs. |

|
Accelerated Transcoding Pipeline |
The templates and features are the same as those for standard pipelines. For faster transcoding results, use MPS queues for high-speed transcoding. Speed boost options include 5x, 10x, 20x, and 30x. For more information, see Official release of high-speed transcoding after public preview. |

|
MPS queue for high-speed transcoding (previous version) |
The MPS queues for high-speed transcoding that were created before February 14, 2023 support only a 5-time speed boost. |
200 |
|
Narrowband HD 2.0 pipeline |
Supports only preset Narrowband HD™ 2.0 templates and preset super-resolution templates (multi-platform MP4-SDToHD and multi-platform MP4-2KTo4K). For Narrowband HD™ 2.0 or super-resolution templates that are customized in the background as needed, use standard MPS queues. |

Video moderation pipeline |
This applies to content moderation jobs. |

|
Media Fingerprint Pipeline |
This applies to media fingerprint jobs. |

|
Smart Tag Pipeline |
Supports smart tagging jobs. |
2 |
|
Smart Thumbnail Pipeline |
Supports only intelligent thumbnail creation jobs in intelligent production. Intelligent thumbnail creation jobs submitted in the MPS console must use this queue type. Jobs submitted by calling the SubmitIProductionJob operation can specify this queue type. If no queue ID is specified, the default intelligent production queue is used. |

|
Intelligent Production Pipeline |
Supports intelligent production jobs such as video synopsis and subtitle extraction. MPS allocates a default intelligent production queue to your Alibaba Cloud account. This queue is not displayed in the console and cannot be modified or created. If you do not specify a queue ID when you submit an intelligent production job by calling the SubmitIProductionJob operation, this default queue is used. |
